This is a video sample intended to show the capabilities of my new camera - Yes it is a Panasonic Lumix GH1 CAMERA that also has video function. I am happy with what this camera can do – taking high quality still pics and videos, so I do not need to take two pieces of equipment to recitals anymore.

The video was shot using the Lumix HG1 with the kit zoom lens (14 – 140), and the settings were: all manual, aperture = 5.0, speed = 1/50, ISO = 800, HD 1920x1080 at 24
Audio was recorded separately using a pair of AKG-C414 in to an audio recorder (Edirol R44)

PS: All criticism should be directed to the pianist as I had nothing to do with his lack of playing ability; and all praise should be directed to me who worked hard to take the audio/video.

Congratulations on your becoming a grandfather!

The camera is listed at $1,500 but I got it through my employer’s discount program with Panasonic for $1,080. It is relatively new in the market, so most retailers still selling it at list price. I expect it to fall below $1,000 after the Christmas.

The video was shot at night, lighting by 2 floor lamps with 15W compact fluorescent bulbs - very dim, but the camera seemed to do just fine. Again this was a test run, and since the camera did well under this condition it would do very well at any piano recital place.
