foxy, get well soon! Glad that you have PW and your piano to help you recover. Hey, i just noticed your sig line, it is the best! I think(?) it's from a scene in the school hall where the assembled multitude are all told to pick their own melody and sing school song, and the twins choose a funeral march and finish last, then Dumbledore with tear in his eye says your sig line quote. hehehehehe ONE of my fave moments

Thank you Canonie! I am feeling a bit better and will be off to practice the piano and that G# minor scale soon I'm glad that you like the quotation from book ONE of the Harry Potter series - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I really think it is a perfect description of what music means to me and to so many others.

This will be the ONE time that I post here. There are too many pages to read. What should ONE make of this thread?

1 week away from my piano and my 10 fingers are unco.
On a brighter note, I finally tracked down a piece dimly remembered from childhood. I had never played it myself, but remember wishing that I could. No recent teacher or pianist had been able to recognise my hopeless "singing" of this unsingable piece. One of the joys of returning to piano is rediscovering forgotten pieces, fragments, memories.
Wishing fast fingers for all you peeyanno players out there.

Canonie,
What was that one piece dimly remembered? S. Coleridge Taylor's Scenes from an Imaginary Ballet Opus 74. There are 5 pieces in the set and the one I remembered is the fifth one which is in A minor and a rolicking 6/8 rhythm. I never hear of this piece these days (but I don't get out much so I would be interested if anyone does know it or like it. It's not very subtle hehe but fun to play. I am hoping to tempt some students with it but need to check availability and copyright first.

Oh I want a kitten! that is very cute. Thought it was a wind up toy for a moment. I wonder if it will carry that trick into adult cat life? Like the way you've made the 1 in 17 bold, nice work to find the one thing that is relevant hehe.

Re Keyboard cat: I think that cat is being forced. Does this cat really love the piano? Yes I'm sure this cat is a prodigy but really a young cat needs to get outside and play in the sun and relax. I just hate it when ambitious parents (um I mean owners) force their cat into advanced piano too early and then later cat will suddenly quit, usually in spring time when cat becomes interested in Other Things.

One week to go before my 1st piano performance. At least I only have to play one piece. If I sound one der full I'll be content. It's been one very solid day of practice today, and more to come this evening. How are you all in one der land today?

Good luck with your 1st piano performance in one week Canonie!
Yesterday was the one year anniversary of the ice storm that hit the area where I live. One year ago today, we woke up and it was 49 F (~ 8 C) in our kitchen. One week plus one day later the power came back on. Now we are the proud owners of one huge generator!

is that really true foxyw? No power for a week + 1? I hope you had an acoustic! PS thanks for good luck wishes, it's more or less under control. Certainly I am a better player since I committed to this performance, the practice is doing wonders for my hands and brain. And I'm leaning towards Bach invention 8 in spite of initial reservations re nerves and contrapuntal music.

Congratulations on your new piano Hiramson! Canonie - Yes, no power for one week plus one day. It was quite a week. I heated water outside on our small campstove and made instant coffee in the morning on the few days that we actually stayed at the house overnight. Our two cats stayed here the whole week and stayed warm sleeping on our puffy sleeping bags and sitting in front of the gas fireplace which luckily we could run even while we were at work. We lost one freezer full of food that week. Our new generator is the largest one in our neighborhood for sure My in-laws have a piano so I practiced at their house - living closer to the ocean, they were not affected much by the storm. Tomorrow is my one and one half year anniversary of taking piano lessons. Still enjoying every minute of playing (well, except for maybe some of those minor scales and contrary motion scales I've been learning but I'm getting there ;)).
