I have a question about the yamaha ydp140.
I want to know weither it's loud enough and weither the touch is oke.

I've played the YDP160 and really loved that one, unfortunately it is not possible to play the YDP140 because it's is souled out at some music stores in my province.

Do you think I will be dissapointed playing the 140 in compare to the 160. It is no problem that 160 is of course a little better but is there a huge difference?

I know i've asked as lot of questions and hope you can answer some. I would be gratefull.

The YDP160 has the "GH" key mechanism. Same is the P-155 and YDP223

The YDP140 uses cheaper and lighter "GHS" keys. If you want to know how a YDP140 would play, try any other Yamaha that has the same "GHS" keys such as the "635" or P85.

Tx for the info, and yes ive already tried the p85 and think the graded keys were good, so what about the sound of the ydp140. As it has 2 6 watt speakers. Does it sound better than the p85? Is it loud enough?

The built-in speakers of the Yamaha YDP 140 are weak. I played that dp and the biggest disappointment were the speakers.

I tried a ydp140 in the store breifly. The sound is loud enough that the person playing the piano can hear well. For my use that is loud enough. But if you want to fill a room neither the YDP140 or YDP160 is the right choise because neither has line-out jacks and you need those jacks to feed larger speakers if you were to use either piano for public performance. I think the "140" would do OK in an apartment sized living room.

If you want "loud" and you are happy with the sound of the ydp140, buy a P85 and a 100W Harke keyboard amp. The total price is about the same as for just the ydp140 but that amp can be heard inside the house across the street. It would play loud enough to literally cause hearing damage. So... if you want "loud" you can get there for about $1K but not with a YDP140.

I spend most of last Saturday playing with this stuff at the music shop. I connected a keyboard to the Harke amp and tried playing a walking bass using the bass guitar sound. No kidding, I could be heard in adjacent rooms through concrete block walls. And this was a "small" amp. They would be happy to sell you one ten times larger

I am surprized that you all dont seem to be very positive about de ydp140. I checked a lot of reviews and everyone was very positive.

As for the loudness, I think it is gonna be enough. Like you I will only play in a small room, it doesnt have to fill larger rooms.

A better amplification does not mean only loudness, but also quality of sound. The problem that I had with the speakers + amp of the Yamaha 140 is that they are too small to produce a good sound.
The Yamaha 160 has a 20 + 20 amp and larger speakers and this helps to get a better sound also when the dp is played at a low volume.

I have a YDP140. I'm a beginner, so keep that in mind when reading these comments . I find the volume loud enough for a small room. The YDP140 doesn't have lots of volume, but more than the P85 if I recall correctly from when I tried it in a store.

You may have already made your decision, but just to add a comment. I have a YDP160 in my apartment, and my mother has a YDP140 at her house. I much prefer the 160, however, the 140 is a fine instrument for playing and practicing (and looks very nice, furniture wise, so if you're putting it in your living roomk, either the 140 or the 160 it will be much nicer than some other opitions)

I think if you only every play the 140, you won't know what you're missing. But if you have the opportunity to play both, you will notice the sound, the keyboard and the pedaling, all of which are better on the 160. But the 160 is a little more expensive, and you have to get the piano that fits your budget. If that is the 140, then you will still have a very nice instrument that will help your skills develop.
