Well, I'm afraid there will be too many waltzs in A minor in the forum laugh. Sorry but there is nothing I can do about it. Or maybe next time I'll check the forum before writing something new laugh

I just learned a lot from previous comments about an older piece, and I would like to thank everybody's in this forum. I hope that this piece will help me to learn more and improve.

Thanks for listening smile

Ilia

The melody was interesting, for me it had a nostalgic feel, kind of Eastern European. I could picture people dancing to this kind of music. The left hand could be improved if when you stay on one chord for a while you alternated beween playing the I and the V on beat 1 of the measure to break the repetition.

Hi Ilia,

I feel your waltz has a nice melody, but is a bit repetitive. It could use more variation, especially in the left hand. I would change the mid-section.
It is harder to comment because it is so out of tune!

Hi Ilia,

I try to always find something positive to say first. Your melody has some interesting aspects to it in that it's not square. You were creative in playing around with the rhythm of the melody.

However, the accompaniment was not creative. Boom, chuck, chuck,... ad infinitum got boring after 30 seconds. In general waltzes are supposed to be charming and flowing. The lack of creativity in your accompaniment became a distraction to the point where once the piece was over I didn't want to hear it again.

The good news is that an accompaniment can be much more easily adjusted than changing melody and structure. There are many things you could do to improve your accompaniment. The first thing might be to tone it down and let your melody shine more. Arpeggios would be a big change of pace, but please don't stop there.

One last thing, if that's a virtual piano you need a better one. If it's a real piano get it tuned before you record it.

Ilia, I think it's very nice. Good job with variations in the RH while staying close enough to the original theme. I agree with the others that some variety in the LH would help. Before I read the other responses I thought a nice LH variation would be to use arpeggios in the LH instead of blocking the chords, then I noticed others mentioned that too. Maybe also go up an octave at some point. But overall, I think it's very good.

Hi!

I really would like to thank you all for your very useful comments!!You guys should ask me money for all this laugh I spoke with my teacher a few hours ago about the piece and he thinks just the same, the LH needs to be improved, and the harmonic plan (I don't know if that's the correct word in english, so please forgive me) is sometimes quite uncertain. So this is obviously the part I need to work. Arpeggios is a very good idea for example. But I also need tu use different degrees to vary the LH. I use I and V a lot, I should also use more IV, II, VI (wich may substitute I)....

He also said that I must take the first part of the piece and write some deeper variations of it. So there is a lot of work ahead. But that's a kind of work I love smile

So thanks again very much and if I think that the new version of the piece is interesting enough I will post it to keep you informed.

ps : concerning the playing, I wrote the music on melody assistant wich plays it, so it's a midi file. I didn't notice that it was out of tune, until now it was always ok. I will see if there's something to do about it.
