Carolyne Taylor has made some delightful arrangements of standard Christmas carols combined with classical pieces that everyone knows and loves:

Classical Carols

Scroll down and click on the pdf symbols on the right to view the complete pieces. They can be downloaded and saved for free, but not printed.

Especially cute are:

It Came Upon A Midnight Clear (In the setting of Chopin's E flat Nocturne)

O Come, All Ye Faithful (In the setting of Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata)

We Three Kings (In the setting of Beethoven's Für Elise)

What Child Is This? (In the setting of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata)

The arrangements in Vol.2 are a little more difficult:

Classical Carols II

Carol of the Bells (in the form of Rachmaninoff's Prelude in c# minor)

The First Noel (in the form of Tchaikovsky's 1st Piano Concerto)

Go Tell It On The Mountain, with Chopin's Funeral March

O Come O Come Emmanuel, with Chopin's Revolutionary Etude

Silent Night, with Debussy's Clair de Lune

Guaranteed to make you smile.

If you have trouble with the links above, just type Classical Carols in the www.lillenas.com search box.

And if you'd rather just have the arrangements on a CD wonderfully played, you can order this:

"Classical Carols" performed by Jeffrey Biegel

Most of you will recognize Jeffrey Biegel as a regular here on PW (he's the one who has the thread detailing his Skype lessons).

I've got the CD and really like it. It's not your run of the mill Christmas album, so it makes for a refreshing change. And what's neat is that the melding of the classical pieces with the Christmas carols comes across so seamlessly. I will confess that another reason I like to play it is that it is a way of exposing my kids to famous classical pieces, which--trust me--they wouldn't do on their own initiative. laugh

I didn't know they had the sheet music out for that CD, so thanks for bringing this to our attention, Mel. smile Hmmm.... maybe I'll need to add this to my list for Santa....

Thanks for the tip on the CD. I am looking forward to hearing it. The samples sounded great.

Thanks for the link.
Carol of the Bells (in the form of Rachmaninoff's Prelude in c# minor) Now this looks like a challenge!

Thanks to this thread I've just purchased the album from iTunes - isn't instant gratification wonderful!

I'm always looking for unusual but good Christmas music, and this is perfect. (I'd get the sheet music, but sadly these pieces are way beyond my ability at the moment)

I love the "Bach Around the Christmas Tree" and "More Bach Around the Christmas Tree" we purchased from Amazon. They contain really cool (and not too hard) arrangements of this very thing! Now, I need to go home and dust off my copies and get busy!!

Collector of sheet music I can't play.

I just got this today and it so good! I put it in the the CD player and hit the party mode on the hand held which turns all of the speakers on in the house. My wife came home a bit later and told me when she opened the door she thought I was playing the piano... I wish!! laugh
Seriously, for anyone who enjoys the piano- this is a must have.
