Hello all,

I'm new here and very interested in the piano sound and playing piano.
Because I don't know if this interest will stay for years I just like to buy a (cheap) digital piano.

I know, everyone loves the PX130, but the problem is, in the US it is selled on ebay for $449,- while here in the Netherlands it should cost more then $800,- converted from Euro's.

So, I want to play piano for fun, but I will start with the Alfred books.

I know, the key-action on the Casio is better then on the NP30, but what about the sound between them?
Is there anyone here who played them both and can tell me, which sounds better?
When I'm watching some Youtube movies I think it's the Yamaha sounding better..?

Btw, I will be playing always with headphones so the speakers don't have to make the difference.

IMO the NP30 is significantly better sounding than the CDP100 from casio. the Casio just sounds "fake" whether through the builtin speakers, headphones or external amp. The NP30 sounds very "real" even through the builin speakers.

Also, I wouldnt discount the action and feel of the NP30 until you've tried it hands on for yourself. I tried both and personnaly preferred the NP30 over the CDP100. Neither feels like a real piano but to me the casio just felt cheap and wrong (mushy and broken for a lack of better words). The yamaha, although different than an acoustic piano, feels nice and is a pleasure to play.

I was under the impression that the Yamaha NP-30 uses the same sound chip as the bigger and 88 note weighted hammer actioned Yamaha P-85 piano.

I have a P-85, and I think the piano sound is very good, especially for the price.

The NP-30 is well made, and rugged...I have a friend with three kids (two taking lessons; one improvising) that can attest to that.

i tried NP30 the other day, and felt np30's action is bad, for lack of weight.

the thing is that CDP100 is a very old model (back to the days when PX100 was around), which cannot be compared to the sound of a much newer NP30.
