1930 Conover-Cable - thoughts on quality & value?

First-time piano buyer here -- we're looking at a just-rebuilt 1930 Conover-Cable, ebony satin, originally manufactured in Chicago. Sounds and feels excellent to me. Do any of the experts out there have any advice on the relative quality of this piano or its market value? Seller is asking 5K. Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

Apologies, I forgot to add: It's a Model 77, 5'9" grand.

Careful here. C&C is not a reknown brand for performance. 1930s is beyond useful musical life expectancy for this type of instrument. $5k will not pay for a "rebuild". More likely the piano was worked over cosmetically and likely original. Have a tech look it over. I would spend my $5k on a less than 15 year old used Korean built 5'8" or 6' grand.

I'll have to disagree with Marty on this one I've restored a couple mdl. 77 this past year or so Here is a recent thread which addresses your inquiry on point. It is much easier to direct you there rather than type my Conover manifesto again. http://www.pianoworld.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/302667/2.htmlThere are other Conover mdl.77 threads in the past couple of years. Do a search " Conover Cable + 77" in this forum.

It could be a decent piano. However, you have said nothing about the length of the piano, which will make a difference. Also, with any used piano, condition is very important. Hire an independent piano technician to look at it and tell you what its actual condition is, and what it is worth.
I suggest looking at some new pianos to see what pianos in the same price range are like.

Thanks for all the advice. Its sound and feel were terrific from my point of view. The seller explained that it was in pretty good condition when they bought it, but went ahead and replaced strings, tuning pins, keytops, action regulation, and performed soundboard restoration and cabinet refinish. It looked pristine. However, if any of you see any red flags in this list, please let me know.
Thanks again.
