Hi all - I feel like a big dummy asking this, but I'm not at all sure how to proceed (and I've looked at a number of past posts here and I'm still not sure what to do).

I have a Yamaha P155. I also have a great set of Sony MDR-7506 headphones that work really well with the P155. But there are times when I'd like to not wear them, so I got to wondering about exactly how I could hook up my P155 to an unused receiver/amp and two very nice speakers. Heck - I might even have a subwoofer with that setup as well.

I see AUX OUT connectors in the back of the P155 - Right and Left(L&R).

What I'd like to do is to hook it all up so that I could get stereo sound out to these nice, more powerful speakers, and perhaps achieve a bit more presence in the sound of the P155. I also have a Radio Shack nearby. If someone could offer specific info on how to do this I'd be very grateful. I'm not entirely sure why I want to do this - the headphones sound superb - but I kind of feel like I lose a physical vibe thing when there is no speaker function.

Just go to the Shack and get 1/4 inch to RCA adapters, and enough cable to go from your DP aux/out to the stereo aux/in. Start with the volume way down.

As said above, get two "1/4 inch TS to RCA cables" and connect the piano to the "AUX" input on the receiver. But I'd add that you do not want long cables. If these cables are longer then about 10 feet they will effect the sound quality. Better to move the amp closer to the keyboard. Then you have to decide on speaker location and how to aim them so that it sounds natural

To shut off the built-in speakers just plug in a pair of headphones. That will kill the internal speakers. In place of headphones you can also just plug in a 1/4" to 1/8" adaptor. Putting anything in the jack turnsoff the speakers.

I've purchased these parts from Parts Express. They sell direct/online, and also via Amazon. Their stuff is very inexpensive. Bypassing the retail markup does wonders for your wallet. Their 1/4" plug - to - RCA jack is $1.25. Stereo RCA cables in 3, 6, 12 foot lengths are all well under $10.

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about the cable length. I've run audio over a 50 foot RCA cable with good results. Because the line impedance is low, long cable lengths can be tolerated.

Hi, I got my P-155 only a few days, beautifull sound but lacks a little warmth in the low frequencies.I added a Yamaha YST-SW45 subwoofer and the result is marvelous ! Just what I looked for, straight forward, not too expensive !

I have a set of bose companion 3 speakers and was wondering if I could connect them to a p155 via headphone jack.

Parts Express has great prices and a nice selection of speaker building parts, but my last order was packed fairly poorly. ~$160 in drivers beat each other up, imagine a very expensive rock polisher. Not quite damaged enough to send them back, but enough to make me pretty upset.

That's good question and i only say that because i wonder if there's any difference in doing that. Through the headphone jack of course you'd be using a stereo plug like on the headphones but with the L and R outs in the back those would be mono plugs. (please someone catch me on that last part if i'm wrong!) ....but i'd also like to know if there's a downside to just using the headphone jack.

The headphone jack is on the front what it will get bumped when some one walks by. Also to is intended to drive a low impedance load such as a pair of 32 ohm headphones. The level is likely a bunch higher than the line out.

The headphone jack is switched to cut off the internal speakers, the line out jacks are not switched. So if the goals is to add more power with your external speakers you loose whatever power you already have.
