Thelonious Monk: The Life and Times of an American Original (2009) by Robin D. G. Kelley contains the brief appendix - A Technical Note on Monk's Music - about how he voiced chords. I think you'll find Kelley's note plus the whole account of Monk's life and time very enlightening. Classical music, for example, was familiar Monk: he played classical music on piano occasionally. I learned a great deal about this genius and legend.
