After 25 years wtihout a piano, I have been thinking of getting one; probably a digital piano. Where I live there are only 1 or 2 stores that carry them, so I have been looking on the Internet mostly.
Only from looking online, I am considering the Yamaha YDP223 because of the 'Graded Hammer' (GH). I understand it is better than GH Standard. However, last weekend I saw a Behringer at Costco for about half the price. To my surprise, the buttons and controls are identical to the YD223. Are they the SAME piano, at least made by the same manufacturer and marketed by Yamaha and Behringer? Can anyone with experience with either one shed some light?
Thanks!

Behringer make copies of lots of other manufacturer's products...pianos, mixers, amplifiers.

Unfortunately their quality is no where near their skill at cloning, and their products are not remotely in the same league as the original manufacturer.

In Behringer's case, you simply get what you pay for.

I don't recommend their products.

That is what Behringer does. They make work-a-like copies of other products. They make audio equipment that looks just like the good stuff and guitar amps and so on. All mid to poor quality copies and all sold at about 1/2 price.

I'd buy their stuff only if you had some non-critical use for it. I do own a Behringer mixer that looks identical to a Mackie but I use it only so I can insert an iPod into my headphones and hear it with my DP. I'd never use the Behringer mixer for recording. I paid $45, the Mackies costs $100.

If you want the YDP223 for cheap take the 20% off deal on the real thing rather than 50% for a fake

Thanks, Snazzy and Chris. I had tried a YDP140 at Best Buy and wasn't satisfied. I am considering a YDP223 because I read of the better action but when I saw the Behringer looking just like the YDP223 at Costco I was disappointed. Glad to hear it is just an inferior copy.

I would have no hesitation at
all in buying a Behringer digital.
Behringer has made a name for
itself selling satisfactory
music gear at bargain prices.
They have a reputation to protect and
they are not going to put their
name on junk. Furthermore,
Costco doesn't sell junk,
and you can't beat their
guarantee and return policy,
which is better than anything you
can get with a Yamaha digital.

The Berhinger is probably a bit nicer than the Williams that Gyro uses, so I can't blame him for not hesitating to upgrade. wink

Personally, I would not recommend either Williams or Behringer pianos.

Stick with the big three, Yamaha, Roland, and Korg, and you can't go wrong.

I tryed the Behringer, and thought the keys were awfull.
Couldn't try the sounds tho, becouse the unit they had on display wouldn't turn on, even tho it was plugged in and the salesperson did everything he could to get it to work again.
