In the midst of all the online recitals for Schumann, Chopin, and Unsung Heroes, let us not forget that Beethoven's 240th birthday is in December 2010!

To celebrate this event, I propose we hold an e-cital of Beethoven's sonatas. If there is interest, I am happy to organize the event. Because his sonatas range from the fairly easy to the impossible, there should be something for everyone! To make this an inclusive event, there are no rules, except that pieces be submitted before December 15th, 2010. There can be duplicates. Single movements are acceptable.

Since I am now learning op.28 (Pastorale) I'd like set the ball rolling by putting myself down for it.

I'd like to contribute, but I've only been playing for 8 months, so there's probably no way I could get an entire sonata up to scratch by then.

Would it be alright if I contribute a single movement, such as the Scherzo & Trio from op. 26, for instance?

I'll do Opus 79 (sonata #25). Been working on the first movement on and off for a long time...hoping this will make me finish it off.

I am learning the first movement of Op. 14 No 2 right now so I'd like to play that. I want to check with my teacher first to see if she thinks I can learn and have the 2nd movement ready for public consumption by next year. I already know I don't have the chops to pull off the 3rd movement.

jazzyprof, just to confirm, yes, I'm intending to do the entire Op.79 sonata. It's easy enough (or reputed to be so) that I think I can handle it.

I think this is a great idea, JP, and would love to participate but my plate is full and there's just too much uncertainty in the future at the moment - not the least of which is that nice new table saw my dad got me for Christmas

You participants will have loads of fun with these sonatas, and the rest of us will enjoy listening.

Greg: I flinched instinctively when I saw the words "table saw". I wouldn't want my piano-playing fingers anywhere near that thing!

It's pretty simple but I'll do Sonatina in G Major, (Anh.5, no.2) - both movements.

Sounds like fun! I'm a bit embarrassed to only know his most 'overplayed' pieces but I'll join in with Für Elise and Moonlight Sonata (first movement only) if you'll have me. Will need to work up some recordings but two months is plenty of time.

I'm really interested in the quality of all the pieces that are going to be played.

I think the more difficult the piece, the better the playing is going to be. Not just because the pianist must be better to be able to play it, but more because some of the 'easier' pieces are being extremely underestimated. Just listen to how Barenboim or Schiff plays Op49!

I'm struggling with the fugue from mine.With two months to go and a busy time at work, I'm starting to contemplate failure, although I'm not beaten yet.It's likely to be a bit of a dog's dinner at best though.
Hearing all these gifted young pianists playing in the Chopin competition isn't doing anything for my confidence either.
