I was trying to find some info on this piano, but I'm unable to find much of anything. It's a Grinnell Brothers Detroit upright piano serial # 48681 Anyone know how old it is and a range of possible worth? The finish isn't too hot, and it's out of tune, but otherwise it seems to be in good condition (strings, etc.) Please, any info would be much appreciated! laugh

It dates to 1952. Current condition determines value above the brand or any other factor. Its value is most likely anywhere from $500 to zero, or less (it might cost you $250 to have it hauled to the dump if it can't be tuned).

So, would it be best to try to have it tuned before trying to sell it? I've never dealt with anything like this, I just want it out of my house. I do know, however, that if I can't sell it, they have a really cool landfill not far from here with a 25 foot drop from the drop off point. I'd assume that would make for an exciting 5 seconds.

Tuning it is probably a good idea. Call a tuner and explain what you have in mind. See if you can pay for an evaluation, and if it is worthwhile, pay an additional amount for tuning when the tuner comes. Who knows, the tuner may know someone who can use your piano.
