Thank you Riddler and Ben!

BenPiano be confortable to use the recorded pieces as you wish, it is very good to all of us help each other.

The ornaments are not in my original sheet music either, but the edition I bought, Schirmer Performance Editions - Hal Leonard Piano Library -FIRST LESSOSN IN BACH, 28 PIECES, the performer (Christos Tsitaros) plays some ornaments not written (The edition comes with a CD with all the pieces recorded). And he do some dynamics either.

The only ornament I put into the piece was a Mordent (G-F#-G) at the end of the 16th and 40th measures, like Tsitaros do, but he uses more ornaments in other places either.

But the minuet 116 doesn't need to use lots of ornaments to sound good in my opinion, it is lively already. The 114, for example, I think sounds much better with all the ornaments(this is only my opinion).

If you really like Bach I think you should check out the GAVOTTE 2 FROM ENGLISH SUITE NO.6 IN D MINOR - BWV 811, one of my favorites and I'll try it soon.

cheers

Played with gusto but also with great precision! Well done!

Ed

wow, I agree. (I miss so many pieces somehow?!) I'm working on this one at the moment and am in awe at the speed and precision. Well done!

My sheet doesn't show any of the ornamentation (from Mutopia), so if you don't mind, I'll use your piece to figure out where they should go. grin

Sneaky, Larry . . . used a different piano this time. grin Is that the Hamilton or (I think) the 1924 Weber? That's another interesting composition. Great job.

Nope, same piano. Does it sound that different? I may have changed mic placement or input levels. Do you think it's better or worse? It's been awfully dry here lately, maybe the low humidity had an effect, although I do have a Dampp-Chaser but it was out of water for 2 days until right before I made this recording today.

Had a chance to watch Benpiano's vid:

I am speechless at how well you play already (after only 7 or 8 months?!). Your performance seemed so natural and effortless, and that was no easy thing to play. I really enjoyed it!

Al-mahed: I listened to your Sonatina in G beginning on the other thread: Off to a GREAT start!

Inlanding,

Those were very lovely pieces! Is your style of playing/writing considered Jazz?

Maybe it's just me, but I thought it sounded brighter and a bit thinner in tone in that recording. Not really better or worse, just different. I guess it could be mic placement and/or humidity related, or it could be just me. I know some days I love the sound of my piano, and some days I hate it.

Elssa,
Another one of your great renditions, this time, Somewhere My Love. Thanks for the video. It's really a joy to watch your hands as you play.

Larry,
I also suspected you moved the microphone from where you normally place it. I did very much enjoy listening to your updated Melting - quite excellent!

Sorry to drag Christmas into January, but I couldn't get this up to speed in time for the Christmas thread. Here is O Come O Come Emmanuel from the Bastien Christmas Book # 4.

http://www.box.net/shared/8sf4kqmkv8

What I had a hard time with was the need to sustain some notes but not others on the same hand. That is, on the RH, I'd play a half note with 2 while quarter notes on 3 then 4. Does that make any sense? Anywho, I had a hard time doing this smoothly, and, truth be known, never quite got there, but the calendar moves on, so shall I...

Ladypayne, nice job on "Once Upon a December"; I've never heard it before, thanks for posting. What kind of piano are you playing? It sounds good.

Nice going, AWPP. You did quite well. Keep up the good work. Afterall, playing the piano is a work-in-progress. wink

Thanks so much, John. Your kind words are very well-received!

Thank you, Dennis. I sat down and played it as I was thinking of my Dad, who died in 2003. I am still recovering from it. I play on his piano. So glad you liked it.

Your version is quite enjoyable.

I look forward to hearing more from you in the future.

I will continue to put up tunes - thanks for the encouragement.

Waltz, yes, some of it could be considered jazz (stride, comping, altered chords, inverted/improvised melody lines taken from old standards, runs and ornamentations developed from classical lessons I take, some of it is more closely tied to free-playing based on some idea rattling around in there.

Thank you for taking such an interest!

AlwaysWantedtoPlayPiano - That's such a nice piece that it's nice to hear it even in January. It was my first listening piece of the day, and I let it play several times. Thanks for extending the holidays.

Glen, I just listened to "Venerate" a few times. Such sadness and complexity. Playing it on what was your Dad's piano must have been extremely emotional.

Both my parents are gone, and it makes me sad that they didn't live long enough to see that I've gotten back into music. My dad was an accordionist and mom was a singer. I have both my dad's accordions. After he died in '98 his neighbor told us Dad used to play alone in the dark late at night right up 'til the week he died at age 84.

I don't know if my theology can accommodate the idea, but I like to think they can hear what we're doing from the "other side"...
