Hi everyone.

I'm looking to do some busking, and would be grateful for any advice on the best battery-powered electric pianos. I've had a search around the web without much luck.

Does anyone know if the DGX-630 can run on batteries?

Many thanks

If you don't mind the lighter action and 76 keys, the Yamaha NP-30 is a good contender.

I have a friend who plays ion a live stage show and uses one on battery power with wireless MIDI as he needs to move the keyboard around during the concert.

A rugged little piano, the NP-30, I have a friend with three small kids that are banging away on it and it has held up admirably.

Cool thanks, I've just checked that out on Youtube, it has a nice sound, and the ruggedness is definitely a plus.

For the action, I'll give it a try in the store, it's just the lack of 88 keys that would concern me a little.

Aren't you going to need power for the amp anyway? I can't see the builtin speakers being loud enough for an outdoor gig, whether or not the keyboard is run off batteries.

Roland makes a neat battery powered amp.

It's a stereo unit as well.

Of course you can run anything on battery power if you are willing to haul around large enough batteries. The 630 would need a battery about the size of the one in your car plus an A/C inverter.

But the 630 itself is not very portable. I don't think any DP with hammer action weighted keys can be moved around without a at least a road case with wheels

If you need portable look for a smaller DP like the np30 but you have to give up the piano-like key action

The action is okay....certainly not like piano, but a nice bit of resistance nonetheless.

If you can get by with 76 notes, it is a real gem, weighing only around 12 lbs.

With a battery powered amp, a double braced X-stand, and something as light as the NP-30 you'd have a pretty cool busker set up.

Brilliant, thanks for the help guys, these are just the sort of ideas I was hoping to generate.

I was originally hoping (maybe mistakenly) that the speakers of the digital piano itself would have been loud enough for simply busking on the street. I agree this is something worth having a deeper look at.

Yea, no way those wussy speakers will work for you at all.

If you are up for a bit of DIY, this portable amp project might work:

Podzuma

Parts Express sells a naked stereo amplifier board you can use instead of gutting the one they use in the article. The guy that designed the Podzuma really knows what he is doing when it comes to speaker design.
