Hi all,

I´m want to buy a DP for my older brother, which has only been into electronic music, dj-sets and the such, but lately has been talking about playing piano. But what he wants first is just to play with the piano plugged to a computer where he can choose the samples and styles.
My questions are, is the usb port the only way of connecting the DP to the computer? I was reading before some posts, and one talked about the Yamahaa P-30 as of being a pretty good quality/price choice. Does the p30 have a ways of connecting to the computer?

Thanks a lot

I think you mean "NP-30".

The NP30 is a reasonable choise. It is low cost and has MIDI In/out. The keyboard feel is a good compromise it he wants to play non-piano sounds.

For decades "MIDI" has been the standard way to connect musical instruments. A midi jack is an about 1/2 diameter round 5-pin DIN plug. Keyborads with MIDI need two of these in In and an Out port.

To connect MIDI to a computer you need a MSB <-> USB converter. In the last few years these converters are being built into many keyboards. This makes connection simpler for many people and is a good thing. But if the keyboard lacks those round connectors then it can ONLY be connected to a computer and none of the other standard MIDI devices. Given a choice you'd want both kinds but if you had to choose only one MIDI gives the best compatibility and the midi/usb converts cost about $35

But, the NP-30 doesn't have piano type weighted keys.
I would think that he allready has a non weighted keyboard, if he's into such music.

You could try the Korg SP-350, or maybe the casio PX 130, or the Yamaha P85.
