Just when I think I got figured out which DP to buy I like the Yamaha P155 the wife throws a monkey wrench in my plans. She wants a console piano a DP that actually looks like a piano because she wants to put it in the great room. The P155 only comes with a black stand and she wants the brown or fake wood look. So here I am searching again. What console should I buy that is under $1,400? I guess I could go with the Yamaha YDP160 but is there any Casio's or other brands out there that make a better one for the same price or cheaper?
I think the charcoal grey looks better than fake wood.
But if she really cannot be talked out of it. Then you want
at LEAST a YDP223. Nothing below that. But what she is really telling you is that she wants a Yamaha Clavinova. (Of course she wants the Clavinova for the price of a P155 but that is being unreasonable.)
Tell her that her fake wood will cost an extra $800. That is really the truth. To get a P155's quality you really need the Clavinova CLP line.
There is another line of argument: Fakes have to be really, really well done to look good. A DP in a wood case looks like a "fake piano" and will never be as good as the real thing. But a digital keyboard, like say the Yamaha Motif on an X-Stand is not fake. It is what it is.
