I'm a GNU/Linux user, personally. But, I can't stand any company that engages in silly publicity stunts like this.

It wasn't Apple's idea. They were approached by Andsnes' recording company EMI.

What the heck is wrong with it? Personally, I'd love to go into a store and be treated to Andsnes. And you have to admit, it's better advertising than the stale Mac vs. PC commercials.

[edit] Good point, jazzyprof.

You prefer people to dress up like penguins?

Personally, I prefer companies that do something for the arts. You can find a performance of the Dave Brubeck Quartet at the Apple website. They all use Apples. In fact, I probably see more performers using Apples than any other make of computer.

I would think that any opportunity for an artist to perform would be embraced. I find it interesting that in today's age of astroturfing, viral marketing, etc, that something as old fashion as having a musical artist perform in your shop (esp considering the importance of Apple to the music industry and vice versa) would be considered a "silly publicity stunt". Plus we won't even go into some of the "publicity stunts" (really public grand standing) that some of the GPL purists engage in. Everyone's trying to push something, be it product or ideology.

Any venue for serious performance is okay with me. I even like recitals at piano stores, though I know they're just trying to sell pianos on the side. Of course, in the interest of full disclosure, I have to say I'm writing this on my MacBook Pro, which I wouldn't trade for anything except a bigger faster one.

GNU/Linux is a Unix-like operating system; the name is an acronym for Gnu's Not Unix. And they have their fanboys too.

Just suffice it to say that it's one of a million ways to make a computer do the work it does and allow the user to interact with it easily.
