Hi guys,
I'm just about to buy a privia px-830 for £719, before i bought it i just wanted to make sure nobody here has any better suggestions for the same price? (bearing in mind that i dont want to lose any features like the ivory touch keys and good speakers)

Many thanks!

I tried the PX-830 extensively, and I think you can't beat the quality/price ratio on that one.

However, since you mentioned the speakers, I think this is one of the weakest links of that model.

Compared side by side with the speakers of even the low-end Yamahas (YDP-140, for example) or Roland (HP-201), in my opinion the PX-830's speakers/ampli combo is not very good, and definitely not on par with the overall quality of that piano.

So, I have no better suggestions for the same price, but you might want to consider spending something more if a (relatively) high quality speakers/ampli system is one of your primary concerns.

The Casio PX-830 has three times as powerful speakers as the YDP-140, so it is surprising that the sound is weaker? Do you remember under what circumstances you tried the YDP-140?

For completeness I leave links to the specification for all three DPs:

No, the sound is not weaker: it's the quality of the sound that is sub-par with the instrument.

Of the three I mentioned, the YDP-140 was definitely the one with the weakest sound, however, it was (at lower volumes) much more high-fidelity than the PX-830.

The HP-201 was the one with the best sound, in terms of fidelity. However, its keyboard (IMHO) was not that good.

The PX-830 had, IMO, the best keyboard of the set, but seriously lacked in the amplification/speakers area in terms of quality. The high frequencies are all "mudded", while it overly exaggerates the low frequencies.

I tried them side by side at a large shop on a weekday afternoon: almost nobody around, plenty of time, not much noise.

BTW, eventually I bit the bullet and spent quite some more than what I anticipated, and got an HP-203.

Jordan, - you didn’t by any chance try them all with headphones to eliminate any speaker issues?

I ordered my px-830 for around £660 at Chamberlains including delivery a couple of weeks ago. They are backordered so hopefully I'll get it by end of this week. Btw, you have to call to get that price, it's not online.

Just wanted to ask - how is the touch on the PX830 relatively to to other DP's and especially to the older PX800 - is it lighter, heavier, and by how much?
Your opinion is very appreciated,
Thanks in advance, Eli smile

Does anyone know whether the PX-830 will be available in the US?

All DP speakers and amps suck.

I am not talking about the very high-end 6K€ models here, but I think the speakers and amps on those suck as well.

Casio Privia PX-130 + VST = quite close to the real thing.

English Paul:
The PX-830 is supposed to be available in the U.S. some time in 2010. Mike Martin of Casio posted a while back that he thought it would be the early part of 2010. If they show it at NAMM then it will most certainly be released soon.
