I never thought about naming my instruments! Sounds interesting, I might try it...I play quite a few though, so it will take me a while. Good luck naming your piano!

Have you read the book "Grand Obsession" by Perri Knize (aka pique in our forums)? She named her piano "Marlene" and it is about how a musical instrument can turn a person's life upside down. A must reading for all musicians and music lovers! When I get a grand piano one day, I will name it "Athena"...

My girlfriend was over yesterday. I told her that I decided to name my piano Valentine after Jill Valentine from Resident Evil: The Umbrellas Chronicles which we were playing a few minutes before. She wasn't happy

I name all my cars and bikes, but did not do it with the piano... Might be a good idea.. I am thinking about "Franzlein" (in honor of Schubert, of course)..... will think about it, thanks for starting the thread.... ("schwammerl" would of course do too, but I think someone already thought about it.. )

I think I need to correct that... will talk it over with the husband.

I don't tend to name things, but when I talk to my cat Lisa about the piano, I refer to him as Mr. Piano. He likes to sing her a song written by Mr. Brahms. She sleeps under Mr. Piano at night, but she doesn't understand why he has so many teeth.

I didn't have my own French horn The first one I used was called Baby, then there was Ellie (for Elephant - creative, no?) and my mellophone was Harris. My spinet organ is named Cathryne Claryse (I know, I know). My piano doesn't actually have a name yet. (On the topic of non-instrumental-naming tendencies, my laptop is Jennykins, my car is Ferguson, my iPod is Meredith, and my digital camera is Joe :])

I haven't named my piano yet, but have had the nagging feeling for some time that I should. I just haven't come up with anything yet. My car is the Crimson Permanent Assurance (Monty Python) and my ipod is Psycho Billy (Johnny Cash "One Piece At A Time")

When I used to work at FedEx Kinko's, most of the stores named the copiers; however, in our store we just called the copiers by their brand and model number. Our piano is just the piano, if we had two pianos, then we would call them by their brand names. I always feel weird giving names to in animate objects.

I was thinking about this question just a few days ago. Wondering about naming my piano Albert, full name Albert Einsteinway. But maybe that's just too, too clevah.
I wonder who has a greater tendency to naming their pianos, men or women.

My car is the Crimson Permanent Assurance (Monty Python) and my ipod is Psycho Billy (Johnny Cash "One Piece At A Time") Well, it hit me from out of the blue one morning when I was thinking about something completely unrelated. My piano's name is "Admiral Halsey".

Nice!
I haven't named my Yamaha, but I have a 60's reissued pink Fender Strat I named "Lola." It fits her perfectly and I'm rather fond of her.

I name everything!
My three trombones (two are no longer with me): Oscar Bellamy Jude Jett "Jasper" Jupiter Rafferty (I initially wanted to call him JJ, hence Jett Jasper, but Jupiter was the brand so my friends made me put that in) My current bone: Ignatius Caspian Timotheus Pierrick Clade ... long name. Timotheus and Pierrick are after my friends Tim and Pete
I also have: Felix Lucian - my Yamaha piano Bela Augustine - my clarinet Angus, Hamish and Seamus - wooden professional recorders Boris Slava - acoustic guitar.
