Thanks for taking all our suggestions into account! You guys do a great job on this site. Ditto! And if I may ask this of Kreisler: Do you want to give us sort of a guideline on what goes here and what goes on the "regular" Member Recordings? Maybe I can help by suggesting a couple of options, derived from things that people said in the other discussions (and maybe the answer will be "whatever").... It seemed that with the exception of the "nuisance" recordings, for the most part the recordings that got put on Pianist Corner rather than Member Recordings were by people who are active participants in Pianist Corner; they tended to put their stuff here rather than there. Maybe it should be said that this Subforum is sort of meant mainly for that? (Although of course those people would still have the choice to put it in the other place.) And also......someone (don't remember who, but I'm sure he'll remember) said that he tended to put stuff on Pianist Corner but then later moved it to Member Recordings as sort of an "archive." Maybe that should be cited as a good idea in general? Or of course you don't have to say anything. But I'm still wondering what "Member Recordings" is really for, especially since we now have the subforums. As a side note: I've been very pleased to see that in the couple of weeks since those discussions, people have been looking and commenting on the "Member Recordings" section much more than before.

All of these are good questions, but they don't really have answers right now. I'm sort of doing what the AMA is doing regarding healthcare reform: "Well, people want it, so we'll go along with it, even though we don't really know what the final product or repercussions will be. It could totally self-destruct, but let's give it a whirl and see what happens."

As long as we don't have a "Stupak Amendment." If you want to murder your own child, do it with your own money.

A welcome development that I think will prove its worth.
Too bad you felt the need to touch on a US-centric political issue in making the announcement, which predictably led to the usual sort of immature posturing from some of those with poor impulse control (one of whom reminds me very much of an anxious kitty desperately trying to "mark" every nook and cranny in the territory before anyone else gets to it).

I wasn't offering a political view, you did that. I was merely suggesting how I thought you should spend your money. P.S....just kidding a little....

[...] And also......someone (don't remember who, but I'm sure he'll remember) said that he tended to put stuff on Pianist Corner but then later moved it to Member Recordings as sort of an "archive." Maybe that should be cited as a good idea in general? I am the one who mentioned that I have done that; it wasn't necessarily meant as a suggestion but just an observation of what I do. I did it because of the minimal traffic in the Members' Recording section and a desire to get more feedback. [...] As a side note: I've been very pleased to see that in the couple of weeks since those discussions, people have been looking and commenting on the "Member Recordings" section much more than before.
I, too, have noticed more frequent visits - apart from my own - to Member Recordings; perhaps the attention was all we needed. Are we now going to be further confounded by having to choose in which of the now available forums we should post our recordings? Perhaps we just need to patiently wait and see what transpires, which "recordings" forum gets the most traffic. Regards,

And if I may ask this of Kreisler: Do you want to give us sort of a guideline on what goes here and what goes on the "regular" Member Recordings? The current Member Recordings serves as a hodgepodge of classics, jazz improvs, and original works. Though only tangential in relation to the topic under consideration, we may consider this an excellent opportunity to delineate this. I say "tangential" because the moderator mentioned that the Non-Classical forum also now contains an analogous Recordings subforum, i.e. categorization of genre is a secondary but extant consideration behind offering a platform of greater visibility. The old Member Recordings could serve as an informal drop site for recordings on which we desire feedback from certain people, notified via PM for example, but do not necessarily wish to hide from others, while the new one announced herein could be for recordings we feel are ready for broader critique.

Yes...the subforum provides for more visibility and a classical focus. Those looking for those two things should post and respond there.

However it works out, I am sure that we are grateful that the questions and requests were acknowledged and responded to in this manner. Thanks both to all the person responsible for raising the questions and to the moderator(s) for responding to it. Regards,

That's a really proactive move, Kreisler. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. There are plenty of pianists about this forum that should have the courage to flaunt their stuff.
Hey...yeah I know I'm a fraud & my contributions are "rubbish", but just think...all it would take for everyone to play just one piece and start "living" the music that this talkfest would turn into a......FESTIVAL with everyone expressing an identity.
Oh well...wishful thinking....
Seriously Kreisler, this is most appreciated.

Kreisler, I know that you and the other moderators have a lot on your hands right now, but thought this bit of feedback might be useful.
The addition of the recordings sub-forum is a great idea, but it doesn't seem to have done much to improve the visibility of the recordings. I think that unless it is taken at least a little further, it seems that we're likely pretty soon to be back where we started, if we aren't already. But the good news (IMO) is that it might not take much more to achieve it.
I don't know how most people "browse" our forums, but one of the main ways I do it, and I'd guess how a lot of people do, is to look at the main page of an individual forum (such as Pianist Corner) and look for threads with new posts. Those threads are indicated in boldface. However, the boldface feature seems not to have been extended to the subforum titles. I imagine this might just have been an oversight. I don't know how much of a difference it would make to fix this, nor how easy it would be to do; I recognize that it's different than with the "regular" threads, because with the latter, when you click a boldface title it puts you to the first new post, but with a subforum title, the site wouldn't "know" exactly where to put you, because there could be various threads with new posts. So, I don't know exactly what details to suggest, but it would seem there could be some way of better drawing attention to the presence of new posts on the recordings sub-forum, and to its existence.

I get boldface in the subforums. YOU DO? I better take another look....... Note to Kreisler: I might wind up having to say "Never mind".....

Did you recently delete cookies or something? That can cause the boldface to stop working for a while.
