Which would you recommend for a beginner who is probably just going to use the grand piano voices? I've been doing a lot of bargain hunting though the prices don't seem to deviate much, where can I find a reasonable deal on one of these.

You could try calling customer service at some online places like Musicians Friend, music123, same day music...or just email to their customer service...and ask if they'd match or beat the price some places had (wwbw i think had the 130 for 399 and like people have said b&H has it now for 429)---I did this not long ago, emailed the request, and it worked with one of the places i mentioned.

Either one would be a reasonable choice for a beginner.

IMO Privia has more authentic piano-like touch as P85 has quite light mechanics. For both of them you can get a stand and 3 pedals integrated to the stand. I bought a Privia PX-130 and have been satisfied with it, but that Yamaha P85 has its supporters as well. You can get a Privia quite a lot cheaper than P85 so all in all it was a better choice for me.

Use headphones when trying them out in the store. Don't buy without trying them out and comparing feel, sounds etc.

Casio Privia PX-130 + VST = quite close to the real thing.
