Hi everybody.

This is my first post after much lurking. I have tried to search the archives and the net in general but have come up with precious little info about the Yamaha WX5.
I am interested in buying a WX5f 1992 model for what i think think is a good price - 3-3500USD and wondered if there are any opinions floating around.
I haven't actually played the piano question and realize this is somewhat of a risk but I have access regularly to another WX5 which I really like. I assume it's another take on the U3/UX3?
I look forward to any comments.

Cheers,
Andrew

Forgot to say, it is being sold through a dealer and comes with warranty, so I assume it is in good condition. The dealer states it has been kept in perfect condition with plenty of life left in hammers and
a very good exterior etc.

Just to avoid any confusion here. To the best of my knowledge there was never a WX5 Yamaha piano. The WX5 was a Yamaha Midi Wind Controller (a marvellous instrument - I play one regularly - using a Yamaha PF-1000 digital piano as the sound module).

Agreed, Yamaha WX5f pianos occasionally turn up in the market place. Never seen one, and never played one, so regret unable to comment further.

This is one for pianobroker.

If the OP regularly uses a WX5, I suppose it exists smile . Also there are some WX3's and WX7's floating around, so a WX5 seems plausible.

Ronald,

Any X series Yamaha is a step up over the non X equivalent. but condition is still the most important factor. I would verify the age through a serial number check and get an independent tech to verify the 'perfect condition' and projected hammer life.

If you're in the US this would definitely be a grey-market piano. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's grounds for extra caution because of truth in advertising issues and possible climate adaptation issues.

http://www.yasumaru/age.html (Yasumaru.com) Lists WX5A (walnut). Good website for trivia buffs and "experts" alike. grin

Wow, thanks for the quick responses.
It is a WX5f you are right.
I'm pretty sure the one I have played is just a WX5 though. Can't be sure about that.
Am I allowed to post Ebay links? There are some pretty good photos of the inside and out.

Cheers,
Andrew

Just when you think you've seen everything as for gray market Yamaha and Kawai, another mdl.pops up. The WX5F looks to be identical to the WX7 (cabinet wise) which YamahaUSA stopped importing into the states in the mid nineties. I believe the difference being that the WX5f does not have a true sostenuto but a practice mute pedal.

I'd be curious to know if the WX5F has the agraffes in the bass and tenor section like the WX7. I believe the WX series succeded the UX series in the late eighties.

The UX5 I believe is the older gray market version of the WX7 having the agraffes, sostenuto, toe blocks and ?.

I also noticed some WX5f(s)have the toe blocks and some with no front legs similar to the case styling between a U1 and a U2.

Confusing or what ?
confused
