Careful, Ken, you might jinx the forum. You never know when someone will start slingin' mud.
Seriously, do you think it's because teachers want to come across as professionals (because we are!) and many use real names?

Golly, these strange postings!

Ken, can I ask if that is a real complement or is it sarcasm, I really can't tell.

Keystring, what is happening with your posting here, did it "just vanish"? Along with others?

Barb and Piano*Dad, is this for real?

I guess I'm just a captive audience for a reply here.

Que pasa?

You could be right. All I know is that THIS forum generates the least number of moderator reports.

There is no sarcasm. It's genuine. I get few moderator reports or problems here. The participants generally just get along and handle their own problems.

The most issues I ever had here were mod reports on a member who can no longer participate.

I wasn't aware one could delete their own posts. I thought you could at most edit away the content to leave a blank posting, but one that preserved the fact that a post had once been there.

Well, quite frankly I don't know for sure because I don't have normal user access. I'm assuming because I didn't do it and besides me Frank B and Greg can do it and I doubt they did.

Yes, one can delete their post!

I've done it a few times, but there is a time limit. Think it's 2 or 4 hours? Something like that!

EDIT: How you delete a post is, just click "edit" button, then you will see "delete post" and then you click that! Poof! Gone!

I deleted my post because I thought better of it. Why spoil teachers' enjoyment of being appreciated. However, that note of appreciation probably had a tinge of comparison - teachers behave well, and the non-teachers didn't, in light of the recent thing. That is a bit of a slap in the face, like pitting one against the other.

In case you haven't noticed, the participants here are not just music teachers. A number of others participate here frequently.

Ken, I don't know what "mod reports" signify because I don't know how your system works. Every discussion forum's procedure is different. Do you mean that you get a picture of what is going on in a forum only through reports by a moderator? That wouldn't reflect much. Some moderators handle things completely on their own, and they may also know how to be preemptive. The teacher forum has had some serious spats that have gone on for pages. They are not immune from being fallible human beings.

Nonetheless teachers do deserve a word of appreciation. Giving advice to students is their job, how they make their living, yet they continue to "work" here as volunteers, sharing their knowledge during off hours. Which is why I didn't want to rain on that parade.

Piano World has more postings per day than any of the moderators can possibly read. So yes, moderator reports are the MAIN way we are alerted to trouble.

There might be times where discussions might get heated here but the participants usually police themselves.

I see every moderator report on PW. This forum has had some but nothing like the other moderated forums.

Moderator reports are not reports by moderators. They are from members reporting offensive posts.

Ken, I've always appreciated your handling of the piano teacher's forum and I've said that to you before about your moderating services.

I obviously mistakingly thought the topic might be sarcasm. Please accept my apology for doubting your sincere comment.

I'm glad we aren't too much trouble for you! And, Diane is right, many of us were concerned about your health not too long ago and we do wish you well in every way.

Thanks, Ken. Reflecting back on this year, we've had a number of trolls, but as a group, we managed to muddle through, didn't we?

Perhaps it's the very nature of the subject which leads itself to decorum and self-control.

Anyway, here's wishing you a healthy, prosperous and joyful 2010 AND somehow being able to find another hour a day for playing the piano.

John

I'll have to agree, you're a civilized bunch (compared to others).

Perhaps it is due to to your profession, which requires both patience and tolerance. smile

I was concerned that your posting might be a jinx. This morning, I woke up to find a certain thread in which a parent asked for suggestions, suddenly hijacked!

Let's hope we got it out of our system for the remainder of the year!
