I have always admired Williams' music. Trouble is, she made so few solo recordings.

Walking and Swinging

My stride playing is getting as rough as a bear's backside but hopefully if I keep myself recording I shall improve.

Oh yeah, now I'm swinging through a beautiful snowy day after hearing your recording.

What process do you use to improve as you record and listen to the recordings? Just interested in using methods for improvement as well. Thanks.

Good one Ted, had me toe tapping. My stride playing is not that good.

I really like the song.

Thanks Joe and tranquillo.

I find recording, which unlike many players I really enjoy, gives me the necessary push to avoid mediocrity. I do practise pieces but as I rarely play live for people nothing tends to "matter" very much. It is easy to drift into playing a great deal each day without ever doing a complete version of anything. What process ? Well, it's usually glaringly obvious where rough spots exist and conversely, some sections may sound much better than I had imagined without my previously knowing why.

Recording improvisation is a different matter altogether, being a case of what we play as well as how we play it. In general I find it unwise to listen to improvisation on the day I record it because if I do I always imagine it's much worse than it actually is and want to erase it. I don't know why this effect occurs.

Pleased you liked it Rob. Williams' music has a very delicate, precise aspect to it which, it seems to me, is lacking in that of her more famous contemporaries.
