Is the Williams symphony elite a good digital piano for an intermediate player? I can get one for about 900 at my local guitar center.

Also, how is the Kawai EP3 in terms of feel and tone?

I wouldn't recommend it but of coure i'm sure some people will. I'd try and get a ydp160 or a p155 and see if you can get it for an extra 20% off (that would make the p155 price 960 for instance) email online stores and ask if they'll give you this (whatever 20% off is on either one of those) based on recent sale prices at this level. Even guitar center may be willing to match or beat those prices...$960 for the p155 and also 20% off what it lists for the ydp160 on sites; no more than that.

what is a good price for the ypd160? i see it listed at 1350 at my local guitar center? Is it listed cheaper anywhere else? This way i can show them the ad.

Stay away from the Williams...please!

Go with one of the big three; Yamaha, Roland or Korg...perhaps consider Kawai as well. Casio if you're really desperate, but please...not the Williams!

I wasn't really considering buying one...the low price just caught my eye.

Why are they so bad? Poor build quality? Bad feel and tone?

all i was saying about the price is that in dec. and again a couple of months before that there were sales giving 20% off on....the 160 for instance so you do the math but i'd suggest just asking places if they'd honor that sale price...and it's only a matter of time till these deals pop up again anyway.

I bought a Williams a few months ago and I returned it to Guitar Center after a couple of weeks ( and got a Yamaha YDP 223). The sound perhaps was a bit muddy, but not terrible. The keys were quite hard to play, which I did not dislike. The real problem was the touch: while most dps from reputable brands have a good,versatile and sensitive touch that reacts differently to different playing styles, delivering different volume in relation to the way the key is pressed ((soft, medium, hard, harder, hardest), the Williams had basically two settings: low volume, high volume. It was impossible to play with a bit of expression: either the notes sounded soft or, suddenly,loud, with almost no way in the middle. After a while, I found this to be very stressful and very limiting. There are some forum members (like Gyro) who will not agree with me, but based on my personal experience I would not suggest you to spend almost $ 1000 on a Williams. The Yamaha YDP 140 is better, the Casio Privia 800 (or the new 830) is better, the Roland F-110 is better, the kawai ES 3(portable piano) is better, and they are all inside the same price range.

I have a Williams Overture, which
is the least expensive model
in the Williams digital console
line--it bought it online for
$600 in 2009, and it apparently
sells for $500 now. I like it.
It's of course not as smooth
and sophisticated as a V-Piano
or a CLP 380, but I can play
anything on it, including
advanced works like the Krakowiak.
I'm an experienced player and
have no problem getting different
levels of volume on it. The
Symphony Elite is the more
expensive model and should be even
better.
