Hi,

I'm going to buy my first DP and after reading the internet, testing by myslef there are two options for me:
Roland HP-201, and Yamaha CLP-330.
They have about the same price in Poland.

Yamaha has better keyboard imo.
Maybe it's a bit stupid, but the thing which stops me from buying yamaha is sound of HP-201, not the piano sound, but for example 'Rich strings' and 'Aerial choir' - they are great, much better than strings and choir in yamaha. And I know it's kind of silly to consider it so deeply..

And here's another question.

I've never used MIDI devices, and I'd like to know if it's possible for the piano to use other sounds by connecting it to my computer. Ok, I assume it is possible. So can You tell me how difficult it is? Are there widely available good quality sound? Can I use them by playing realtime? And, can I use piano's internal speakers while using computer-(midi)-generated sound?

If You have any suggestions please tell me, especially differences in features. (Does clp-330 can playback of sound files from USB memory? Does roland have?).

It's very hard for me to choose one of them, so help me wink.

Thanks for any replys smile.

Just one thought: If you emphasize on the quality and number of different (especially non-piano) sounds I would ask myself, if a home piano like the HP and the CLP series are the right choice for you. Maybe you should have a look into more versatile Stage Pianos or even Synthesizers.

Ok, maybe it sounds like this, but no. Piano sound is the most important and surely HP, and CLP are the choose for my. I want piano. But I heared strings and choir in HP-201, and they impressed me, they are just beautiful. (I wrote it's a bit silly) I just want to check all things before buying, and get some info about possibilities that MIDI gives.

Choose the one with that has those good features, that you'll use the most.
In this case, piano voice and the action.
I don't think you'll regret your purchase because of the choir and strings sounds, but rather becouse you chose the wrong action/piano sound.
Also, the CLP has 2 versions of choir and strings, right?
Maybe the other one would suit you better.

Also, either the CLP is really cheap, or the HP is overpriced. Either case, the CLP wins in the price category.

Since HP 201 and CLP-330 are the same price at your store, you should get the CLP-330. The HP 201 is more like the CLP-320.

Agreed.
HP201 vs CLP330, easy choice ... Choose the CLP330, for sound quality.

I think one could prefer the feel of either key action. You will just have to play each and decide. try turning the power off and playing.

Same with the sound. I like Roland's sound but Yamaha's is closer to a real Yamaha grand while Roland, I think tries to be less bright. What is best? And yes, Roland dose have very nice non-piano sounds.

Yes, MIDI can connect a keyboard to a computer or any other MIDI device. Yes you can play in real time or record a performance using MIDI. There are many different sound libraries. I have over 1,000 sampled instruments on my computer. Everything from a Steinway to a Oboe played staccato to cow bells. Is it easy? depends on the kind of computer you have and your general skill level with computers. A Mac can do this right out of the box. It ships from the factory with Piano samples preinstalled. Just "plug and play" a Windows based PC will requires some software and drivers to be installed and maybe some minor problems to address but can work fine after you work those issues.

One other thing, to play sounds using MIDI and a computer you will need a USB Audio/MIDI interface and some high quality monitor speakers. Good ones are not cheap
