I found someone on craiglist that is selling a Roland RD-600 for $75. To me this seems too good to be true, but they mention that there is a sound issue that needs to be repaired so I emailed them asking to elaborate further on it. Taking that into account, does this seem like a worthwhile investment? I don't really know much about the DP itself, so if anyone more knowledgeable can give some input that would be cool. Thanks.

Basically they are giving you the DP for the cost of repair I'd jump on it fast. for $75 it would make a great MIDI controller even if the sound function is completely shot. In any case it would be easy to resell for what you paid. I'll buy it from you if you don't like it. The Roland site has user manuals and other infor http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=440

I've owned two RD-600s. Loved them. Very versatile instrument. The acoustic pianos are outclassed by today's standards (but there is a very broad selection of APs and some are still very playable) but the EPs and synth textures are still good. PA-4 hammer action is very nice, quick and quite percussive...but not graded.
If you got REALLY lucky and the repair came in cheap (and possible!), you would feel very happy with yourself. As per Chris's post...if the vendor says it still has controller functionality you can't lose.
Good luck,
Steve

It depends on what the "sound issue" is, on whether you will need to repair it, and on how much that would cost to repair.

Key breakage is a RD-500 problem way more than RD-600. 600 had totally different action to the 500 and you WILL read many problems about RD-500 key failures. Don't confuse the two pianos.
