i have been researching all morning trying to find the real age of a piano we are considering. I've looked on the yamaha website and they have a chart but it only goes up to 2004. I guess they figure if it's not on the chart then consider it a fairly new piano?? I just want to make sure the dealer is giving us the right information. I see that there are places that charge a fee for the info. I was wondering if there are any places that will just give me the age of the piano for free. i do have the serial number, by the way.

Most serial number books and charts are always a year or two behind realtime. One can only extrapolate from the last posted numbers and make an educated guess. If you have concern whether or not the piano is new, call the distributor with your question.

If you don't trust the dealer to tell you the truth about the age of the piano, why the heck would you buy from him?

The model is a Yamaha T116 with serial #313067. Thank you so much!!! I haven't been able to find anything close to that number.

In the 12th edition Pierce Piano Atlas, Yamaha's numbers for the Thomaston, Georgia factory go up to T304000 for 2005. (2004 is T295000, 2003 is T266000, 2002 is T251000). Using a little extrapolation, I'd guess that 313067 is likely late 2005 to early 2006.

yamaha's website also ends at 2004, but it has interesting info about where the pianos are built:
