Hi all,

Can someone help me? I have an opportunity to purchase a Kohler and Chase upright piano that is in really good shape. The seller is moving and wants $700 for it. Serial number is K55799. Is this a good deal? Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Barb

No. This piano is over 100 year old. People have trouble giving pianos like this away, so $700 is too much.

Barb,

While BDB's statement is accurate enough, I'm wondering what "in really good shape" means.

You see these every so often in the bay area, many of them worth less than the price to haul them off, even the ones in "really good shape".

It's a shame, of course--I'm fond of these old uprights--but there it is.

On the other hand, I knew a guy who put a lot of money into one, restrung, hammers, etc. couldn't sell it for a fraction of his costs and finally dropped the price to a thousand.

So, if this piano has had recent verifiable work done, and, above all, sounds musically good to you, it might warrant a second look. Just don't get your hopes up.

Thanks for your advice. I had a tuner look at it and he said it is in good shape. I was able to talk down the price to $300!

That's great Barb. Never hurts to give things one more try . . .
