I have a CASIO PX-R410 and I have connected it to my laptop via USA cable. I have also install the midi driver that comes with it (Music data Management Software - is installed and it appeares to be for messing around with sounds you want to upload back to the piano - and it has file extendion .cfk). Can any one help me get a tune I record on the piano onto my pc as a midi file. When I down load the files from the piano they are in a file format that CASIO made and it is not recognised as midi and no DAW recognises it.
To round up: 1: I have recorded my song on the piano and it is stored it in memory. 2: I can connect the piano to my laptop 3: There is CASIO provided software that allows me to down load the file (but it is not a midi file) 4: HELP

The .cfk is a Casio Music file that can only be recognized by the piano. I'm not sure, but doesn't the casio music software allow you to change file types? Consult the manual on that. If you need a manual, you can download off the Casio site. Look under the Support link.
Other thing you could try is recording the song directly in the DAW. That is normally what is done when the piano is being used as a MIDI controller connected via USB to the computer. You could also connect the piano directly to the computer using the headphone out to your line in on the sound card and record to your DAW that way. After recording you can save the file in whatever format you need.

I have the manual that came with the piano and it more than useless. I have also down loaded a manual for the software I have installed (the sw that came with the piano) and that does not seem to help - because it seems to be a sound editor.
I have a copy of audacity -- do you know how to make it recognise the piano. Please do not mention sound cards - i am on a laptop and i'm using usb connection.

Sir: If Audacity does not recognize the piano, you might not have the driver loaded. The newest driver is CCMID12 for Vista and Win 7. There's CCMID12e for 98/ME/XP. I have a laptop running Vista and was able to install CCMID12e. I would say this is most likely the problem you are having. Does a message pop up about an unknown device when you plug in the USB cable from the piano on your computer? If not, you might need to do some configuring in Audacity to get it to recognize your piano. Consult the help menu in Audacity for set up info or you could try to Google it. Just one more thing, the driver does not seem to support 64 bit Windows O.S. The driver for Windows 7 shows 32, 64 bit support but on the download it just says 32 bit. It's a little confusing. What O.S. are you running XP, Vista, or Windows 7?

As far as I know, Audacity does not support MIDI.
So connecting your Casio to the computer's USB port will be a _midi_ interface, and will have nothing to do with Audacity.
If you want to use Audacity to record, you need to connect the audio interface (1/8" or 1/4" headphone or line out jack, I'd wager) to the computer's sound card.

I just about figured that out yesterday - can any one tell me a free ware software that supports midi?
And then how to get my DP recognised over the USB.

galaxy4t - There are mo error messages - and I do not know if I'm running 64 or 32 bit XP.
