I happened to come across one locally and whilst the specs are nice it is some 8yrs old.. Just wanted to hear from some current/past CLP170 owners..

I was thinking in the $800-$900 range at most (if in excellent)

What say yee? thumb

I have a CLP150 which is the same vintage and has similar specs (I think the CLP170 is better). I bought it new about 5 or 6 years ago and it works as well today as the day I bought it. I think $800 or $900 would be a good price for such a nice instrument assuming it is in good shape.

There was a CLP150 on the DC Craigslist last summer for $1500. I don't know if it was ever sold.

I would say $1000-1500 is about right since it's in good condition. In June of last year, my brother and I upgraded from one to a CLP-380. The dealer gave us 1500 for the 170. And it needed repairs.

If the trade-in was part of the new CLP380 purchase, then there's no telling what you got for the trade. When you merge two deals into one, you cannot determine the value of either.

The "stated" trade-in value might just be a "discount" off of the list price of the new piano.

I doubt a CLP-170 would bring $1500 in a straight sale to a private party (never mind what a dealer would pay you). It's a good piano, but DPs depreciate rapidly.

It IS a great unit so I may see what the person is willing to accept before going over there. I'll keep you informed if it turns into something more thumb

If you are talking about the Polished Ebony model then I think upwards of $1.5 - 2K is to be expected (these were quite a bit more expensive). For any of the other finishes then $1K - $1.5K would be a steal depending on condition. BTW: The 170 was a big step up from the 150.

Also, honestly it doesn't matter the age of these since Yamaha really hasn't improved the technology all that much from this model (remember, this was the premium model with all the latest technologies including the best amp/speaker combinations, iAFC, GH3 keybed, etc.). I have the 170PE and have looked at every new model revision to see if I should upgrade but haven't found any improvement significant enough to justify the expense. If you can pick up a 170 in excellent condition for under $1.5 then you are getting a great deal on an instrument to compares to the best that Yamaha has to offer today.

For tonal variations and variety, you can run the midi out to a discrete tone module/computer and run the audio back into the 170 (remember to turn local control off to bypass the internal tone generator). I use a Roland Fantom XR, as well as a computer running samples, VSTs and Pianoteq. The 170 makes an awsome midi controller and sound reinforcment system all in one.

True the PE finish would be worth more, just not sure how much. I'll see if the guy replies back (hasn't thus far) and see about visiting it locally to possibly check out.

Thanks for the feedback from existing owner, very much appreciated thumb
