My piano was made by "James M. Starr & Co." in the 1890s and I plan on getting it restored/rebuilt to use as my primary piano. I came across an ad from 1906 describing a piano built by the company, that is similar to mine. (I will list a link to this below). It has the listing price for the piano at $450. Does this confirm that the Starr piano company built good quality pianos? Have you ever heard of the company?

Here is the ad.

Here is a picture of my piano.

A picture of the same piano as mine..same company.. just one less pedal.

(also, my piano's soundboard has an intricately painted surface while this one does not.)

Hellow triforce 4077 - If you would check my posting (restoration before / after gallery) and open up the photos contained, you will see a Starr grand that I restored. It's a piano that I still tune, and have always thought to be a very well made piano. This particular instrument was done in Zebra wood. Chuck Behm

It's the brand of piano that I grew up with -- a nice console. It was fine till after a while it started kind of falling apart. But I think I was just hitting the keys too hard. smile
