I'm a beginner and have been taking lessons about 6 months. I am satisfied with my progress and my teacher. It was mentioned in another thread in this forum that it is a good idea to work with more than one teacher during your time with the piano (probably would apply to anything really).

In your opinion as a teacher, how long should you spend with a teacher before moving on if you aren't having any issues? Is it a good idea to have more than one teacher at a time? As a beginner, how can I identify shortcomings in what I am learning without having more than one teacher at a time because I don't know what I don't know?

I doubt very much that I am to this point yet. Like I said, I like my teacher and he is extremely knowledgeable, I'm just curious.

Thanks!

If your satisfied with this teacher, stick with him/her for several years. It takes time to absorb so much knowledge, so there's no reason to be jumping around for jumping around's sake. If, after five, six or more years, things seem to be going stale, that's the time to start broadening your horizons. Just so you know, many of us start students in grade 1 or 2 and they continue to study with us through HS graduation. As an adult, a decade with a teacher wouldn't be unreasonable, if progress is continuous and satisfactory.
