I was wondering how long it takes most people to learn a given simple piece.
I have been working on this real notey piece for months and am just tired of it.

I would be willing to work on the same piece for much longer, if I were seeing progress in some specific skill that that piece was chosen to improve.

But teachers get bored too! Mine usually wants to move on as badly as me, if not more so.

It is only my opinion, but I prefer to spend several months learning 10 pieces I could master and progressively move to more challenging stuff than spend the same several months banging my head against one piece of work that seemed a bit beyond my grasp. Just work on improving your skills then come back in 6 months or a year and see if you could pick it up more quickly.

That happened to me. I was trying to learn something out of sequence and worked on it for two to three weeks getting nowhere. Then I dropped it, look at the right sequence in my repertoire handbook and 6 months later when it came time for that piece, I learned it in a few days.
