Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) was a contemporary of Bach, Vivaldi and Handel and was one of the most prolific of all composers, having penned (at last count) over 3,000 compositions of many different types, sizes and styles.
It is reported that in his lifetime he was just as celebrated and popular as the other three Baroque giants.
Here is one of his simpler works to open the Bar in a gentle, classical manner. This is from "Essential Keyboard Repertoire, Vol. 1" from Alfred.

JF, it is a joyful piece very well played with subtle touch.
Bar already opened this early morning ?(or is it late night ?) Due to the ABF recital next door, I did not have any new piece for the bar. This one I recorded months ago, but I don't think I have posted it yet.

TB,
That was a very beautiful theme. It has kind of a Spanish flavor which I really like. It could easily be made into a classical guitar piece - that's sort of the image I had while listening. Really nice.

John Frank - Very Nice! Did you change the settings on your Clavinova? In addition to your excellent playing this recording has a richer, deeper tone quality. Well done.

This will be my one contribution of the month. I know some of you have heard this before, I've tried recording it a couple of times and ended up being so dissatisfied I pulled it off. It's a song about my father, who passed away last year, and for what ever reason I just can't seem to sing it the way I want. This time I really like the piano accompaniment and the video but, once again, don't like the way I sang it. (My wife thinks I get especially tense when I sing it...). Anyway... I give up. This is up on youtube to sink or swim on it's own..
Peyton, Your tune flys right, emotion and dynamics are perfect. The fact you describe why you wrote it provides even deeper meaning to what one hears in your wonderfully written and performed composition.

Peyton - I remember this song from the first time you posted it. It was one of my favorites of yours then and still is. Excellent composition and performance.
Ah Peyton - I thought this was wonderful. There are a few places your voice wavers. It's only natural. We all carry emotions in our throats. Thankyou for explaining why you wrote the song.

Me too.
I really liked your video, too; the fading in and out of the different angles was extremely effective!

Thanks Glen, Bill, TLT and Monica... I don't usually get so nervous about a "performance". Hey, we're all just amateurs here but for what ever reason I really wanted to put my best foot forward on this tune and just can't seem to do it. I can't seem to sing it like I normally do. (One lesson learned is to listen off the headphones as well as on.. with headphones on it seemed better.) Monica, I just discovered the "Ken Burns" effect in imovie and love it. It's the next best thing to having a second camera (something I wish I had).

Peyton,
Your song was exceptional on all levels. The accompaniment to the lyric was supportive and not overwhelming. Your singing was as it should be, heartfelt. I thought the words were very powerful expecially the title where "judging distances" can be a metaphor for how we interact in our relationships. As we have all expereienced personal losses they can be devastating until we look back and celebrate the totality of our loved ones. I'm sorry for the loss of your father.

Ben,
That was a very interesting exercise. There were some hints there of several composers. I thought I heard a little Yann Thiersen in the beginning. This for me is a great way to warm up during a practice session. Choose some chords and just let it loose. You developed some good ideas.
JohnFrank, nice job on the Telemann piece. I'm not too familiar with his work, but he sounds like a more melodic Bach. (A sentiment that would probably cause great consternation over in the Pianist Corner, but I call them as I see them... )
TrueBeginner, that was another lovely composition from you. I think the title suits it well.
Ben, the term "exercise" doesn't do justice to your piece. Exercises are boring. Your piece was not. Very pretty; I like the chord progressions. And I had to chuckle at the title screen to your video.

Andy
Thanks, Andy. I used to really enjoy just strumming on the guitar and humming a melody along. The chords came naturally and without thought because I had been playing for so long. I'd like to do this on piano, but play a right hand melody instead of humming, and like you say, just let loose. But nothing is near automatic or natural yet. Hope to get there someday.
Now off to google Yann Thiersen.
ETA: Thanks Bill and Monica, glad I could make you laugh.

My February Piano Bar submission is a piano vocal of a song written by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss. It was first recorded by Louis Armstrong and released as a single in 1968.

Bill,
I really enjoyed that. A real memory maker. I liked the setting you selected on your piano, it fit very well with the song. Your vocal style is great, nothing forced and very relaxed.

John - I love baroque music, so I really enjoyed your submission to this month's Piano bar. Nicely played.
TB - Nice composition. I like the change at 1:07.
Peyton - Bravo. Your song is very nice piece of music, full of emotions.
Ben - I've already posted comment on your video at youtube. Nicely played. I wouldn't mention that, because I wasn't really sure, but now that Manndrew pointed it out, I've heard a little of Tiersen in that as well.
Bill - I like this song and it was a pleasure to hear it played and sung by you.
LadyPayne - that was really fun to hear (and watch). thanks.

JF Very well done. You brought out the feeling of dancing really nicely.
TB I liked it. Reminds me of sitting in a hot tub on a deck in Steamboat Springs as the sun fades over the mountain. (sipping a beer, or course)
Peyton Can emotions be perfect? I don't know, but you brought them out in both your hands and voice. Very well done.
Ben I admire the way your hands are so quiet and relaxed. Wish I could do that.
Bill As soon as I read the description I hoped it would be that song. A good fit for your voice and you played it beautifully.
LadyPayne A few more like that in your repertoire and you will be ready to take on all requests at your local pianobar. Well done.

Last month I've posted the first movement of Beethoven's Sonatina in G major and this month it's the second movement. Hope you'll not get bored as much as our little doggie Wolfie who felt asleep while I was recording this video. He has a little cameo at end of the video.

John Frank, great job on the Minuet in G. Nice controlled rit at the end. Sounds to me like you are making real progress.
TB, very nice piece! I think Andy hit the nail on the head - you must have been influenced by Malaguena or something similar. Well done.
Peyton, profound, and very well done in every way!
Ben, when I read that this was an exercise - I hesitated. But no, it's more than an exercise - a very nice piece of music, and well played too. Neat ending!
Bill, another stellar performance! Great song, well sung and played.
Ladypayne, nice work! That song used to be very popular but I haven't heard it in a long while, and I forgot what a cool bridge it has. Well done.
David, that was a masterful performance. Your expression and dynamics seem perfect to me.
My piece this month is Song For My Father (Peyton - take note, you are not the only one!), by bebop jazz pianist Horace Silver.

John, I really enjoyed that Telmann piece. You played very smoothly and controlled (as others mentioned before me).
David, another sweet classical piece. And perfect playing from you as well, it was measured and kept in perfect time. Cool decoration on the piano as well

Thanks Bill - yes, I changed from the Grand Piano 1 voice to the Grand Piano 2 voice - it's clearer, crisper and more resonant - a very astute observation on your part

Ben, exercise or not, that was a really nice tune. It had a little dreamy quality about it. TB- You really need to change your online name... you are no longer a true beginner! Your compositions are always so nice and this one is no exception. Bill- I think maybe that song was written for you. One of your best yet. ladypayne- great playing. David, I missed most of the submissions on last months bar so I will have to go back and hear the first movement. If it's as good as the second you have this piece DOWN. Ed, I used to be really in to Silver and haven't heard this piece in so long. Man you really play it well!!!

The accompaniment is as good as ever and the video is very professional and your wife is probably right - again, with time you may come to relax a bit when singing it, and finally come to accept what we already know: it's an emotion-laden but bittersweet song very well sung. Great job!

Hi All!
John Frank, I love it! Very nice!
TrueBeginner, excellent! Thanks for sharing
Peyton, a very touching and emotionally moving song! Your father would have been really proud of you!
BenPiano, That was great playing, Ben!
Bill, an absolutely grand performance!! You motivate me to want to learn more and get better!
LadyPayne, I enjoyed that! Your piano sounds great (and so does your playing!)!
David Ruzicka, wonderful playing! I enjoyed it!
Ed, your performance was excellent! Your father would be proud too!
I’m working on a new, original song that is rather up-beat; it has new lyrics on an older, classic rock-n-roll foundation. Maybe it will be ready by this weekend. My work days are sun up to sun down and then some.
Keep up the good work everyone!
Rick

Good job BP - interesting exercise (easier and more enjoyable than the ones I do on the treadmill) - now you need to come up with some more exercises, give them numbers and get them published as a "supplemental study book". You could be the next Hanon or Czerney! (sp. )

Thanks David - of course, as I understand it, many composers of Baroque music sarcastically called it "Broke" music since, without royal patronage, that was their usual financial state
And thanks to all who have kindly commented on my Bar piece so far.
I should disclose, especially for anyone who might be considering playing this simple but elegant piece, that my version of the Telemann Minuet in G is "enhanced" - the lasr 8 measures of the second section were repeated a 3rd time and the last 2 measures a 4th time as a tag ending. While not specified by the composer I would like to think that old Telly is smiling down from that great composition room in the sky in full approval.

True Beginner - really nice piece.
Peyton - wonderful composition and lyrics.
BenPiano - great exercise. When I first had to learn to chord on the piano, because I'd said I'd play oom-pah for the fiddles the next week, I went to my guitar and played a G chord, figured out what the notes were, played them on the piano, and voila! - I was on my way
So many great tunes already posted - it's been a joy to listen (and watch) every one of them.

Hi everyone,
I have nothing "new" to contribute this month, but just wanted to share one of my "year one" adult beginner pieces with you, the all-too-famous "Für Elise". I posted this before on a separate thread about a month ago, but wanted "in" on this month's piano bar.
PS-Surprisingly enough, it actually broke the thousand view barrier on YouTube after about a month... I wasn't too crazy about my performance after listening to it a few more times, but I still hope you guys enjoy it.

Ladypayne & Augustina - It's nice to play piano by one's self, but making music with another is really something cool. Great job - I look forward to more!
Inlanding - I really like your blues contributions to the Piano Bar. What's a bar without some blues, eh? It has a jazzy sound to it too, and creates a really cool feeling (cool cat?). That's an awesome niche you're pursuing!
mcasl - excellent first submission to the piano bar! My first piano bar was last month and I couldn't help but add a with the post. You'll find no better place to share your music than here.

David - I like your Beethoven. And I'll admit I laughed when I saw your dog
Ed - thank you, once again. I've been stressed out today, and this was a great relaxer. Great piece.
Elssa - I love Fats (oh yeah, another difference between a pianist and a piano player, I think - there aren't any pianists whose nickname is "Fats" ) so I enjoyed this. I know Waller played organ, but - well, since TX-Dennis hasn't checked in yet - I'd rather there weren't strings. Nonetheless - great tune.

Thanks all for kind comments. I enjoy playing stride. My grandmother was a great electric organist, so sorry, will never stop playing the strings, as we love that variety of sound.

That was so nice to listen.
I wont dare suggest any other title!
I wish you the best recovering from your surgery.

Just recovering from surgery and having to work...moving kind of slow the past couple of weeks.
As a result, here is a piece called, Middle of the Week Blues. There's probably a better name for it, but considering the current times...Send a suggestion if you've a better name for it (be kind).

ladypayne - I was not expecting the radical tempo and mood change in this piece. You started so slow and tentatively but it was all a ruse to set up the spirited finale. Really nice arrangement and performance.

Glen - this has a very cool sort of late night smoky bar kind of feel. An excellent composition and performance. You should ask Ed if you can borrow his bass player and drummer for this piece.

jazzwee - I really enjoyed this! The guitar voice works great for this piece. I like just the hint of distortion when you strike the key hard. Is that a live drummer?

John Frank - Very nice John! Very smooth playing. Thanks for an introduction to a new composer.
True Beginner - That was rhythmically interesting! Great job of playing and composing
Peyton - such beautiful playing and singing. Lots of emotion and reminded me that my father's death anniversary just occurred a few days ago.
BenPiano - not only did you play guitar chords but you made it sound like guitar strumming! Nice.
B528nf7 (Bill) - another great submission from a prolific player and singer! I liked that.
LadyPayne - wonderfully done! And interesting intro (your first submission)
David Ruzicka - Very familiar with this one as it is something my kid constantly plays. Nice job.
Riddler - Impressive Ed! You got the melody licked for sure. I remember that took me awhile to get the time right. Did you plan out that solo or that just came out on the fly? It sounded great.
Elssa - You're a stride master! With those long fingers, tenths must be a breeze. Great playing!
Inlanding - Glen, as always you have such a nice touch on that piano. Very honed tone. Love it. And such nice Blues lines and great use of space. You have some real skills there.

You made me laugh Bill No, it's a keyboard drum patch. I wish I could have a drummer play with me... and Thanks!

Very creative performance here. You incorporated just about all the key elements of solid blues. You get a very clean sound in your playing. Really nice.
Another great example of doing just enough. You balance your playing so well, not trying to do too much so the integrity of the song is kept. I really admire that. I also like the way you reintroduce the theme at the end. It's so well integrated.
Thanks for all your comments and encouragement. I've always struggled with keeping time (making changes at the correct intervals, etc), so 2010 will be the year I focus on that aspect.
Getting one of the play-along CDs to develop that muscle is a good idea - I am on it! I ordered Ray Santisi's book and will stop by the music store next week to find another book/CD with some of the more popular standards to give it a whirl.

Hi All,
I've really enjoyed the wonderful submissions to the February piano bar.
I recorded a new song I wrote today and I used a drum rhythm accompaniment that was part the options on my Casio digital piano. Of course, I played the song on my grand piano. I did have a lot of fun with this song and got a little carried away at the end.
The drum machine took some getting used to and I think my timing may have gotten off a little here and there. I hope you all like it.

Peyton, I am one of those who've listened to this song before. I still like its bittersweet theme and rather melancholy sound. I think you sang it very well, and your playing is as delightful as always. I wish I could do what you do.

Bill, this is another enjoyable performance. Armstrong's original has always been my favorite version of this piece in spite of the fact that it's been recorded by literally hundreds of performers over the years. Oddly enough, my second favorite version is probably by country singer Ray Price. Great job.

A really nice, evocative piece, Glen. It puts me in mind of the soundtrack from an old "film noir" movie. It doesn't sound like the surgery has slowed you down any. Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery. This is truly wonderful!

The notorious (and glorious) Fur Elise. I know you say you;re not happy with it, and I can discern a rough spot or two, but this is a pretty nice preformance. I ususally only play the initial theme as the fast parts are just too much for my old fingers.

Great noodling, Jazzwee! Nope, my little hands can't quite reach the 10th - have to roll 'em. Love your "My Romance"! Your guitar setting sounds a little like mine - very authentic.

Elssa, great left hand stride work! And another perfect ending. Very easy to listen to!
Augustina, LadyPayne - I love Pachelbel's Canon but I've never heard it before as a piano duet - very enjoyable. Well done!
Glen, wow, you can really play the blues! Great lines, great chords. Very creative!
Mcasl, you're off to an excellent start! Well done. Hope to hear more soon.
Cebukid70, excellent playing on Elise. I especially liked the dramatic part. Well done.
Rick, that was fun! You should do this for a living! Keep 'em coming!
Jazzwee, really great recording. Glen is spot on - it really does remind me of Joe Pass! You might have been working hard but it really has a relaxed, flowing sound, and nice swing feel! Laid back is probably the best way to say it.
Re the question about planned vs on the fly, I'd say my solos fall somewhere in between. The melodic lines were on the fly the first time I played them, but I gussied them up by repeating the melodies in 3rds or 4ths or double octaves, beefed up the LH chords with some 9ths and sus'es, and so on for the final recording. Also, needless to day, those pentatonic patterns are things I have practiced, and my fingers are just itching to play them when an opportunity occurs. But I almost never plan a solo in the sense of deciding in advance what modes or scales to play, or picking chord tones to target, unless, of course I am totally stumped by the chord progression. (For example, the bridges of Nefertiti and Killer Joe had me scratching my head bigtime!)

PS-Surprisingly enough, it actually broke the thousand view barrier on YouTube after about a month... I wasn't too crazy about my performance after listening to it a few more times, but I still hope you guys enjoy it.
hehe, too bad if we're the only forum members that can do piano duets in person :P I think duets are fun and cool! I'd love to hear more from other people. They are kind of hard to do and trying to keep the same tempo is really hard for me and augustina especially since we are really bad at doing that lolz. But, We'll keep doing them when we get the time!!
I've loved watching/listening to all the great performances here the last few months. Now it's my turn to stop lurking and hang myself out there...
So here's my first video recording...Billy Joel's Nocturne, which incidentally was something I heard performed here about ten months ago that totally turned me on to all kinds of music I'd never paid attention to before. Once I tried this I was hooked and actually started learning "real" classical piano and returning to lessons after a 30-year hiatus.

P.S. But who's this Billy Joel fellow - is he a contemporary Classical composer and well-known or something?

Beautiful! Thanks so much for posting that! I play a few of Jobim's pieces but don't often hear this one done for some reason. I also really love Sinatra's rendition: WAVE/SINATRA
BTW, I used a tone setting on my Roland called "Seashore"..hoping it sounds like waves (for the intro and ending).
Larry B., what a nice playing of Nocturne. That is one I learned a while ago and I think you play it beautifully. It made me get right up and work on it again.

Well, funny you should say that....it was your YouTube recording of it early last year that got me started on it (and on a whole new path of piano). I can't thank you enough!
Thanks to all for all the kind comments. What a wonderful welcome to the "bar"!
All these great posts I am finding to be very motivating - thanks for all the wonderful music. Such great talent!
As a result, I've spent a great deal of time and focus working on a number of classical pieces. Some of those sessions involved working on a few measures only. (seems crazy, but it is worth it to get a hold of 32d notes and difficult intonations in some of those passages).
So, as a method of near-perfect avoidance, I ended up capturing a bunch of interludes in between those practice sessions.
Also, there are contrasting versions of Autumn Leaves, one recorded awhile back, the other just this past weekend.
Hope you like some of those extemporaneous pieces. Some are jazzy, some bluesy, some more etherial. A few of them were recorded on my girlfriend's Bluthner 4 - a very fine instrument.

Augustina, I liked that a lot!
Glen - sigh. I'm lucky if I can get through two short pieces a month. Then you casually drop a cluster bomb of great stuff - I'm in awe!
I listened to a couple so far and love what I hear. Though I did chuckle a bit at the title of the first piece, considering the length of the ending. I don't know if that was intentional or not, but it works!

Thanks. I was getting a bit frustrated with a few sections in a movement of a Beethoven Sonata I am learning to play. Over and over and over, I keep trying to get it right, still can't get it as I am reaching beyond my grasp with the entire piece anyway. Here is a link to it, so you can hear what it is supposed to sound like, played by Alexei Nasedkin Op 10 No 1. The part(s) with which I struggle most is at 1:55, 2:02. 4:03, 4:10, 4:17, 4:50, 5:00 in that video. I signed up to play it for the upcoming Beethoven e-cital.
You know how sometimes there are pieces of music that get under your skin...this is one of them for me. Hopefully, I won't burn out by practicing it ad-nauseum.
Anyway, I decided to work on a few standards, then I started free-playing (all the Interludes). If you'd like me to expand on some of them, let me know and I will give it a whirl.
My apologies if it's too much to listen to, but it just came out.
I feel a little embarrassed posting this amongst so many beautiful works, but why not put myself out there anyway? It's air by Purcell out of Unit 2 of Humphries Piano Handbook.

Excellent first submission to the Piano Bar! It really is a beautiful piece, and you showed a nice controlled touch with it. Well done!

Oh Byron, that was nice! I bought a whole Purcell book hoping I could get more of that piece than what I originally found. It wasn't in there I do, however, play Purcell for English country dances sometimes. Great music.
very pretty Bryon! I have to ask though. Was there a cat meowing in the background or something? I started listening to it and I thought my cat was having a fit!lolz. Or at least it sounded like a cat and it sounded almost exactly like my cat when she meows.. anyway very nicely played though!

I thought the same thing, but I didn't know if it was a cat or a child. Very distracting, I'm sure it was to Byron, whatever it was. Kudos for playing through the distraction!
Byron - that was great! Excellent control and precision, but very "musical". Sometimes those pieces can sound mechanical, but your performance does not sound that way at all.
Glen - what a variety! I particularly liked hearing the two versions of Autumn Leaves.

Haha! For the record, that is my seven week old baby crying in the background, although it could be easily mistaken for either of my two cats
I should post an "outtakes." It was a comedy trying to record this -- the first time I had the baby in the room with me and she started SCREAMING (she is a little colicky and can really scream!) about 25 seconds in. I finally got her to calm down and gave her to my wife in the other room and hit record again. This time the phone -- which was sitting right by the camera -- rang about half-way through. Finally, on the third time I was able to get all the way through with only some minor background crying.
how do you guys get the youtube videos on the forum instead of just the website address?:) I can never figure out that part^^

You have to copy the "embed" link that should show up on the right side of the you tube page with your video. Then you paste it into your reply and select "using HTML" in the drop down box before submitting your reply. If you don't do that it will show up as gobble-dee-gook.
ooh haha my mistake, I actually got up from my computer to check on my cat and she was sleeping like usually..:P Babies have their moments too i guess!

Oh my..., so much new music since I checked last time. This weekend I should have a time to watch/listen all your new submissions. Meanwhile you can watch my new video. I've recorded two versions of it more than a week ago but I couldn't decide which one is better. And I'm still not sure. Hopefully you'll like the version I choose to upload.
Johann Sebastian Bach - Prelude in C major (BWV 939):

Nicely done, Musictuary. I especially liked the Bartok, where you did well to control the 'mist' and not tangle it up in the 'melody'.
OK, time to submit something myself. It's been a bit of a dry month so far, but I have taken a liking to this one from Pete Friesen's book (Take the Lead 2). It's called Five Stars. My aim is to improvise over the baseline, like Pete does in the CD - in this recording I've taken a few liberties, but mostly stuck to the plot as written in the book (I think):
Shira's certainly mastered the bass-line of this number, however I found the melody section somewhat lacking. Charming vocalisations! A most enthusiastic performance, and I noticed she retains good rapport with her audience!
Still, she is rather strecthing the definition of 'adult beginner'.

Musictuary - Nice job on these. I especially liked the Bartok.
ten_left_thumbs - Your Five Stars sounds great. Easy and smooth and draws me right in. I've never heard it before, but I enjoyed the relaxed, "rolling" feel you play it with.
Thankyou for your comments, Larry B and Cathy. I do really enjoy playing this one, and have been at it a lot since posting. If you are interested, Cathy, in developing improvising skills in the RH, this is a good book to go for. I'm finding it less intimidating than other things on improvising, in that you can see little melodic variations that are do-able and sound good. That's what I'm finding, at any rate.

TLT - very excellent. You get five stars for playing Five Stars. You kept the rhythm very well. It's a pretty piece of music and I am sure you enjoy creating it. Thank you.

I don't do a lot of solo piano playing - the recitals, once a month at an adult day care center, on occasion at a band gig. This is my bread and butter, piano-wise. So here I am with Roaring Jelly, doing rhythm piano.
That's impressive, Cathy! I wish you lived closer; I'd love to be able to attend a Roaring Jelly gig. I really enjoyed the edgy energy of the Catharsis piece; I just wished it had been longer. Great audio quality for a live recording, too--I didn't hear any background noise.
ten left thumbs: wow that was really pretty! I enjoyed it thanks josuff247: good job on the first recording! Prince Charles: Very cute Elssa: Very pretty as well. Gotta love Irving Berlin! Cathy:That was pretty cool! thanks for putting that up.
Well, I am already thinking of what to do for next recital lol. I doubt this piece will be ready though so maybe one after that. But If i can.. Im gonna try all 12 variations of twinkle twinkle little star by Mozart! Here's the first variation.. still not perfect but thought i'd share it :P Some people really fly on this song..I might've flew a little too much though hehe. Who knew playing twinkle twinkle little star would be so hard well for me anyway :P

Hi All!
I know February is winding down and I’ve already submitted one presentation here this month, but Larry Larson gave me an ultimatum that if I didn’t write a new song and post it here within 10 days, (as of 3 or 4 days ago) he would come to Georgia and hit me up side the head… . So, I figured I’d better write a new song and record it and post it here to save him a plane ticket (and me some pain )!
(I was a little heavy on the sustain pedal to start with)

Rick, thank God you got this done. I have it on good authority that Larry Larson is one huge man. You sure don't want him smacking you upside the head.

That was terrific, Rick! Amazing how you can play and sing so well together - very smooth! Would love a little tutorial on all those great piano chops and licks that you do. My singing is hopeless, unfortunately.

Hi Folks, I'd like to share Bach's Prelude BWV 846. Glen already shared it in a very well done playing, but I tought would be nice upload a version without pedal, which is my preference. I'm of course working more and more in this piece, and will APRECIATE very much any CRITICS about it! Don't worry, you guys can be really mean!
I know this piece is commom place, too much played, etc, but I'm a beginner after all :p, mandatory piece!

al-mahed - This is a very good recording. You played this with precision and confidence. I don't believe this piece is "common place" - I never tire of hearing a lovely piece played well.

Hi Ben, Bill, Glen, thanks for the kind words. You guys are beeing too kind
Glen, nice rendition without pedal, I really think works better without pedal!! I'm not purist or something, afterall I did dynamics in a Bach composition. It is just a matter of taste. I think works nice with the ornament at the end too, but Bach itself didn't write this in the originals.
BTW Bill, I wish I could play and sing these old songs as you do pretty well, I'm looking forward to play and sing Crazy Arms from Jerry Lee Lewis
cheers

For this month's piano bar, I'd like to submit my little kindergartener, who just took piano up this month. She plays a familiar little holiday song on the black keys.

I'm not really sure how this thread works, but here's a simple little song I wrote a couple of weeks ago for some friends who lost a beloved dog who wasn't even two yet.

Thanks, Bill and all! Nice thing about a lot of these boogie-woogie/blues songs is that they don't have millions of chords, often only the three - I, IV, V, like in this song.. Easy to remember.
The e-cital of a couple weeks ago moved me to play more classical music - at least for now.
Tonight, I found this piece in a stack of music that's been sitting idle for quite some time. The lettering is in Russian and the only numbers on it are 43 No 1. I'd like to know what it is, but have been unable to find it using my favorite search engine, so I'll call it 43 No 1 for now. It's a little rough, to say the least.
Augustina: nice job there! Cebukid: cute! Swaying Tree: That was very pretty. Thanks Inlanding: Havent heard 43 no 1 before :P So don't know the name of that one hehe but nicely played just the same! nicely played on Moonlight too
Rickster: wow! You always impress me on how you can compose and sing so easily together Elssa: Nice boogie woogie. Was fun to listen to! al-mahed: Very nicely played. Keep up the good work! Anotherschmoe: Was about to post and saw you just added yours in too. The enya song was very pretty and I'm always a fan of the lord of the rings music Nicely done!

Thanks for the nice comments. Since it's still February, here are two other original compositions. "Keely's Song" was written just after Christmas for a young woman who worked with my wife and was killed in a car wreck with her brother on their way home for the holiday. I wasn't going to post it since the recording is imperfect with some hesitations, but what the heck...we're all friends here.
"By the Lake" has no sad story behind it. It's just a song that popped into existence during one of my improv sessions, as does most of my music.

SwayingTree - I listened to both Keely's Song and By the Lake. While I liked them both I found By the Lake to have a more interesting melody. Your piano has wonderful overtones - Well Done.

Alrighty, back again. First recording played completely by ear to boot! I'm more of a sheet-music person myself. But I had a sudden urge to play something from Dances With Wolves last night, scoured around for sheet music, couldn't find any! Lord of the Rings was easy to dig up online but I was having a hard time finding anything from Dances With Wolves, but I really wanted to play it anyways so this afternoon I sat down at the keyboard for awhile and worked out the melody and then made up a left-hand part to go with it, noodled around with it some and then made this recording. Let me know what you think.

Thanks. I've tinkered around with picking out melodies once or twice before but this is the first time I've actually completed a piece. Usually lose interest quickly due to lack of progress. It helps that this one is short and repeats a lot.
My last post represents most of my effort from the second half of the month. On to Unit 4 in Humphries Piano Handbook. That book is working well from me, but I have the feeling it will begin outpacing my progress pretty soon.

Byron S, dont worry about it, because the book goes too fast, it is a handbook as the title says, not a compreensive course that deals with all technical dificulties step-by-step.
I have this book and I like it pretty much!
