Hi there,
I bought a Roland DP990 and my son is trying to connect it to his computer. We have the MIDI to USB cable. He is using FInale Songwriter so he can compose a song. After several attempts last night to connect we werent able to. We have installed all software, followed the Songwriter tutorial step by step, but still cannot get the computer to read the DP.
Is there something we are missing here? PLease help if you can.
Thanks,
Skylar

You should check to make sure you have the latest driver from whoever made the USB - Midi adapter. I had a similar problem with a Yamaha UX16 USB adapter. It turned out that at the time the only place to find it was on Yamaha's Japanese web site. They've since made it easier to find. Yamaha UX16 info and driver. NOTE To use the UX16 you will need to install Yamaha's USB-MIDI driver. You can download the driver for all compatible Windows and Mac operating systems at the following site. If you have another make of adapter check their web site or google the model and make of the adapter and driver, ie. Roland xyz driver.

A common mistake is to reverse the In and Out cables. Actually the correct way is to cross them not match them.
Next check for if the LEDs flash when you hit a piano key.
What OS are you running. Most modern OSes such as Mac OS X and Win 7 or don't need to have MIDI drivers installed.

Chris, thanks. The tutorial said to cross them and it didnt work (MIDI out cable into the MIDI in DP and vice Versa). I matched them and now it works.
Thanks. I think we are good for now.
