Larry Fine depreciation schedule interpretation

Would you assume that the depreciation schedule on page 57 of Piano Buyer for Steinways between 1 and 25 years old includes both uprights and grands? I would, given he doesn't break down that age group. However, if asked, I'd guess that Steinway grands depreciate slower than Steinway uprights. Does anyone have experience to prove this one way or the other? I'm looking at a 2004 Model 1098 and would like to verify their asking price against something before asking an RPT to bother appraising it. Thanks...

It tells you where it's different for uprights and grands....otherwise it's the same. And remember, everything is just estimates, as it says.

I don't think this depreciation schedule fits the conditions of the market right now... not even close.

<I don't think this depreciation schedule fits the conditions of the market right now... not even close.>
I am also looking at 1991 1098 and don't have a good point of reference. 50% of msrp in 1991? what was msrp in 1991? I also want to be in the right ballpark in price before I take a trip to see it etc.
Thanks, Lew

I think, unless a piano has serious damage or extremely poor care, you'd have to hit kind of a sweetspot of negativity(in terms of age, originally overpiced, poor economy, or desparation of seller) for a piano to be worth only 50% of its original price. An exception would be an extremely old no name uprights, which in original condition are often worth almost nothing.
