Getting Finale/PrintMusic to behave [or is it me?]

Well, we have been talking about this for a few years and finally purchased a Yamaha P85, along with a new PC and PrintMusic 2010. I have used PrintMusic with the mouse and computer keyboard only to enter 4-part a capella vocal arrangements, so the Yamaha keyboard is a new variable in the equation.
My wife, daughter and granddaughter are the pianists and I am supposedly the software/hardware guy in the house.
I played around a little bit and have been able to enter one note at a time in one layer, as I would have done with only the mouse/PCKeyboard.
It appears that the Hyperscribe tool is what we want to use, but there must be more to it than that.
Together we [including my wife, daughter and granddaughter] have tried unsuccessfully to record some music from keyboard through the MIDI and into PrintMusic. What we get is nothing at all like what was played - - - it does not look right and it does not sound right when played back through the MIDI to the P85.
The 4 of us are frustrated and wondering what we are doing wrong and/or what we are missing.
Where do I go to get the kind of information I need to do this and get the kind of results that look and sound like what was played into the MIDI and thus into the PrintMusic program??

I woud suggest if there is still time the scape the current setup and simply use Garage Band. Yes I admit that I sound like an elitiest telling everyone to spend $599 on a Mac Mini computer when not everyone can afford so much. But really what's your time worth and what did the PC plus the software cost. (That $5999 price includes all the software you need)
OK starting from whaere yu are now the problem is likely just that you are trying to make everything work all at the same time and at the same time learn many new concepts all at once
Take just one thing at a time...
1. Can the PC play MP3 music files and does it sound good and undistorted DOes it continue to play well when you other things like web browsing? good then the audio works
2. The midi editor work with mouse and computer keyboard. good
3 can you play back music you entered using the mouns. Does it sound good? do not continue until this works
4 what happens when you play the DP's keys Do the LEDs on the intfave cable flash? What happens if you swap the in and out MIDI cables? Is the P85 sending on all channels or just one (see user manual)
5) You shoud be gettsmidi data into compter now and recording in software. Hw does playback sound? As good as the file you entered with the mouse? If not did yh P85 send a "program change" to selct some random instrument? Set it back th "grand Piano".

LLL, I can't help you directly because I don't own Finale (yet). I'm interested in this thread because I'm planning on getting it when I buy a new PC (either Finale or Sibelius). Finale has a very good Forum ("http://forum.makemusic.com/"). You may find the answers there. Regards, Jose
