Hi,
How do I retrieve the song recorded on the Kawai ca61 via usb to computer. I have Windows XP and it recognized and picked up usb connection from the piano that it has new hardware, but I don't see an additional drive letter to see the files from the digital piano.

You would only see a new drive letter if the DP identified itself as a "storage device" I bet it identified itself as a MIDI device.
The way you move the data is to play the piano while recording on the PC.

Thanks Chris for the quick response. Would that mean I need purchase some software that would actually record from the piano to the computer software via the usb?

You're correct because there's no additional drive letter to show additional storage. I can here the computer beep when I plug in the usb or remove the usb connector.

Thanks Chris for the quick response. Would that mean I need purchase some software that would actually record from the piano to the computer software via the usb? I don't know a lot about what is available for the Windows PC. But I do know there must be 100 to choose from with software prices ranging from free to four figures. Apple Macs come setup to record/edit both midi and audio. I'm surprised PCs don't have similar basic functions built-in. When you select one, look to see if there is good third party support. For example how many books are there on amazon.com for the software, are there good and active on-line forums for it. There will be a bit of a learning curve and you will want the availablilty of help. The catagory of software you want is called "DAW or Digital Audio Workstation". Also look for this software bundled "free" with some audio gear. The "lite" version of cubase is $150. But if you buy a $150 audio interface you can get CuBase and a ton of other stuff all in one box. Bundles are the way to go.

Thanks Chris for the indepth info. I'll surf the internet for some samples to test first before making an investment on the 3P software.

MTsang, I would recommend the following excellent resource, which provides free software and explanations no how to record both the audio and MIDI information from a digital piano. http://www.pianoclues.com/how-to-record-piano/Kind regards, James x

Thanks James. I'm going to look into it and give it a try.
I tried mulab with asio driver, there's still appears there's no communication between the hardware and the software. I can hear the usb on/off when I plug/unplug. I'm going to try the audacity tool.
