I signed up for a free business yellow pages listing.I set it up and submitted the request.A week later I get a bill in the mail for $200.I sent the bill back without the payment,and wrote "I signed up for the FREE listing.What's with the bill "?

I only vaguely remember dealing with phone book ads from years ago. There is no question the internet offers tremendous opportunities for the average person or small business, which frightens those invested in the old business model. As with the publishing world and others, long established major players have a vested interest in prolonging the status quo but it is futile. I strongly recommend using the tools now available online - it should save you time and money, produce better results and probably improve your mental health.

I have a FREE online ad with the Yellow Pages. Only problem is they tend to call every 6-8 wks wanting to upgrade me and provide a web site at some rediculious price. I just inform them that I'm collecting UIA right now and can't afford it. That seems to do the trick.... ummm come to think of it, I havent' heard from them in awhile now

Funny how we all have different definitions of "FREE". For you, it means you get a free ad. For them it means they are free to bug you an a regular basis.

Got a call from the Regional Rep today. Full of apologies, but lacked immediate action. He said they were revamping the system, thus the long hold time the other day. My main gripe for him was sales staff saying one thing, and the written contract saying another. (buried in the fine print on page 3) The proverbial "say anything to get the sale". That's why my cell phone and land line service are provided by someone else, and always will be.
