So my teacher called off our lesson for today and I'm doing some studying on my own. Check out this AMAZING lesson on chords, after watching it you will be able to figure all major and minor chords. There is a really simple logic behind them and once you get that you can play them easily after a few weeks of 10 mins a day of practicing them. All you need to know is what a semitone is and the name of all notes. And that's it.

Lesson on Major, Minor, Dominate 7th, Diminished Chords

Ive seen a few of his lessons. I find his little jokes a tad annoying and he laughs at himself a bit. but at least he's giving something back which is always a winner.

http://waltribeiro.net/ seems to get through to me. Maybe its his enthusiasm

Had me hooked within the 1st 20 seconds with this one

I love Andrew's (Lypur's) videos. And he is such a genuinely nice guy!

Just checked out Walt's video. Like him too!

Um, "DOMINANT 7th" not "DOMINATE 7th".

Just in case y'all head out into the world with this hilarious S&M terminology.

"dominate" - perhaps English isn't a first language?

S&M = ?

And what was hilarious? (Maybe if I knew what S&m stands for I'd know?)

So, the snarky comment was trying to link the word "Dominate" with S&M? I suppose -

But it's the way *I* play piano - <snort>

Not snarky!! Good grief. The dude who posted the video called it Dominate 7th and English is clearly his first language (if you'd checked out the video).

I'm giving a kindly meant heads up! It would be like going around calling Minor Moner. You'd look like a fool!! But only to people who knew I suppose, so there's a thought.

Someone (female) who engages in S&M professionally is known as a Dominatrix.

I subscribed to Lypur's (Andrew's) channel, I really like his lessons. I enjoy the goofy jokes because he reminds me of someone I was good friends with in highschool. BTW, HappyApple, thanks for being my lone subscriber! After my next tuning I plan to make some videos of me publicly humiliating myself playing piano.

On second thoughts, there's no problem running around calling it a dominate 7th if no one you know knows anything about either S&M OR about dominant 7ths.

Hm. One could say, for instance "The video said 'Dominate' but it's actually "dominant." 'Dominate' sounds more like S&M." That would have sounded more kindly to me smile It still would have been a joke, but it would have made clear who the joke was on.

Yup. I know about S&M and Dominatrices smile

Sigh. But apologies for not reading it the way you meant it.

Good God. Yet another case of intent misinterpreted. Let's all go DOMINATE the hell out of that 7th...just leave it hanging in the air unresolved. That'll teach it!

That's HILARIOUS - look at the slightly uncomfortable looks on the faces of the audience members at the end!! You know, I've NEVER actually seen Tom Lehrer before - only heard his recordings - what a revelation!!!

Ooops, sorry about that. I call it Dominant 7th but then I saw it as Dominate 7th in the video description and changed it in the last moment, thinking that somehow I learned it wrong before. But English has nothing to do with it, it's a musical term. But if you are interested - it's not my first language although I sincerely wish it was smile

This mistake comes from me not knowing the term in any language smile

When Andrew catches a slip of the tongue, he pastes a corrective note in the video to be clearly seen by everyone. He has been producing a prodigious amount of videos as a free service. He seems to be working from an outline which seems well thought out, but he has not scripted his words - it's essentially a draft, to get information out created in a single take. I wouldn't be surprised if eventually he went back to everything and began fine-tuning it.

I wonder if someone could give him an heads up about the errant word. I think he'd appreciate it.

It's in the written paragraph describing the video so wouldn't be hard to fix. He's probably not too worried about it as he leaves quite a few wrong notes (in this video anyway), and seems quite relaxed about it. I expect he's keen to teach the general idea and not too self conscious about the playing.

Hey Teodor
I hope you're not practising these chords too hard, and relaxing the hands between each chord. Don't hurt yourself (I can tell that you're the kind of person at risk of working too hard). I hope they are becoming more familiar already smile

I guess the guy's heart is in the right place, but I had to click the video off, after seeing too many 'unforced errors'.
Could be confusing to a beginner.

I do them for a bit to just familiarize myself with them for 3-4 mins per day. I did feel some minor aches in my hands the first time, I suppose it's normal. My hands are still a bit stiff, especially with chords.
