Anyone know where I can find this piece? I would think it would be public domain, but in searching I haven't had any luck.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnQUbJGDK2k

In one site, someone found this but the title didn't match the piece, so the title maybe wrong.

That's not the right piece. That is Verlust by Gurlitt, but it's not the piece from the Youtube video. As the OP suggests, the Youtube video is mislabeled.

So what's the piece? Something in E minor, from the video. The mystery deepens. We need Mark's thematic catalog.... smile

Oops, my bad. blush I just saw the title and didn't even look to see if the score matched the recording. I guess that means it's time for me to get some sleep!

I love a good mystery. I'll look again tomorrow.

Got it! It's by Gurlitt, but the title is Das Arme Kind (The Poor Child) from the "Scenes of Childhood" set. I knew I've heard this before, and it was driving me crazy that I couldn't remember it!

Good find!

We're getting closer. The melody of the score matches the melody from the video, but the arrangement is clearly different. Different keys (D minor vs. E minor), and many other differences as well.

So, it looks like the video is someone's arrangement of the original piece. That's probably as close as we're going to get.

Might I suggest, armed with the score Heidi provided, making your own attempt at sounding out the video version? And writing it down? It would be an excellent exercise, and probably not too hard.

I downloaded that version and it really sounds very different to me. I'm also not one to impervise. Wish I could.
