Last week, for the first time my 7 yo son took the California CM theory exam for Level 3, and this week he'll take the performance exam. For the performance exam, he's playing 3 pieces: Beethoven's Sonatina in F Major, Schumann's Soldier March, and Kalabevsky's Calvary Gallop. He's handling them well since he's been working on them for about 2 months, but to me they look and sound higher than Level 3 (BTW, I know little about piano, so my assessment could be way off). Teachers, I'm curious if these are Level 3 pieces? If not, is it typical for teachers to ask their students to play higher-level pieces in CM performance exam?
Thanks.

I'm looking in my CM Syllabus and there are many, many composers for level 3. Schumann's Album for the Young is listed as well as Kabalevsky's Children's Pieces (op. 27 and 67). I'm surprised a 7 year old could do the Level 3 Theory test. It's pretty tough for that age.

Also remember that CM3 is actually 4 since there is a Preparatory Level.
