14. Strings & Wood/CarlMc - Prelude in E minor OP. 28 No. 4 CarlMc, I learned this piece last fall and almost played it for this recital. Now I'm glad I didn't! I play it much slower than you. Your version is so different but very beautiful. I love those last 3 chords!

Thanks, Mary Bee

I do hope that I will get the chance to hear you play your Prelude in E minor!

11. John Frank - Ashokan Farewell Although I'm not a fan of added sounds, you pulled off the strings in the opening quite well. As for your playing it has developed a sophistication that shows all your hard work has paid off. Alfred does work. Great job my fried. Keep it up.

12. TrueBeginner - Until Dawn Wow, you not only composed your own pieces, it sounds seriously good. I guess we will have to wait for your album to come out. Very well done!

13. Riddler (Ed) - On Green Dolphin Street Love jazz and envy you jazz players...but this sounds so familiar, is it from an old TV show? Nicely done...

14. Strings & Wood/CarlMc - Prelude in E minor OP. 28 No. 4 I just started this piece this week. So thanks for the example! Well done, especially with that tricky turn around section. I hope mine comes out this good.

15. ladypayne - Canon in D Love the video opening..haha!
I've been playing the Alfred version for a couple of years and I like this one much more. I think of the TV show The Wonder Years when I hear your version. Thanks for the video...well done.

37. Alleykatt - Cathy - Theme & Variations From The Moldau (Bedrich Smetana)
What a wistful piece - like looking out over a winter scene, maybe some regrets or longing there. You did a beautiful job.

45. Quagles - Dear You (Dai)
You did a great job, and congratulations on your perserverence in getting this recorded. I read those threads with my heart in mouth waiting to see if it would happen smile I'm so glad it did.

Cathy

16. Schubertian - Variations Hob. III/77 For just sight reading, well played. Your Estonia sounds sweet.

17. Mr Super Hunky - Waterfalls Enjoyed this very much. Thanks. The BB sounds awesome...

18. tdvance (Todd Vance) - Sonatina, Op. 13, No. 1, 1st mvt. You surprised me, this has a bit of a jazz fell to it, not the classic sound I was expecting. You are doing well for one year.

19. timmyab - Impromptu op 142 no 2 Extremely well done, your experience shows. You really do well with the dynamics. The speed and grace of this piece shines through.

20. mattodono - Musette in D Major BWV Anh. 126 I played this from the Alfred series and remember how tricky it was to play. You did a great job with it.

Thank you Ben and Marybee!

Ben, yes it was a "monster" when my teacher first assigned it to me ha, but hopefully I tamed it somewhat - it really is fun to play.

Marybee, yup, those darned trills! At least in this piece there weren't any really long ones! Am continuing to work on them as I contemplate yet more Bach.

Thanks for the link Carl...the guy sure knows his stuff, but I'm still crying from laughing after he said don't play a certain part "like a Nazi hymn"...lol

Here's my next group of comments:

21. mcasl - Erster Verlust, from the 'Album for the young' by Schumann, Op. 68, 16 Well played. You show a very nice touch on this piece.

22. Jazzwee - Stella by Starlight Nice improv -- the shift in tempo works well too!

23. LaValse - Etude Op 2 I'm not a big fan of Scriabin, but you played this very well and I was able to overcome my lack of enthusiasm for his music. Nicely done!

24. TX-Dennis (Dennis Turner) - When I Fall In Love Dennis, I liked your "arranging." I certainly hope you've had lunch by now. Very nice job on this standard.

25. ddh - Daniel - La fuente y la campana (The Fountain and the Bell) As with your other Mompou offerings this was well played, and not at all what I normally associate with Spanish music, perhaps because it's so modern.

26. Serge88 - What A Wonderful World Nicely done! I like your use of the damper pedal here -- it really adds to the effect.

27. AnotherSchmoe - Eyes On Me I don't know the music so can't comment on accuracy to the score, but you certainly played it with confidence (even if it's not perfect). I enjoyed listening to this submission!

28. Teodor Tenchev - The Little Shepherd's Song Very nicely done! You've worked hard during your three months and it shows!

29. HomeInMyShoes (Aaron) - op. 15, nos. 1, 4 & 8 Very pretty piece well played! Your playing reflects a delicacy of touch that is so appropriate to this piece.

30. Monster M&H /Les - Misty If the recording is accurate the piano is uncharacteristically bright so, you're right, it does need voicing! Nice playing, however. Good feel for this piece.

31. CMohr - Gavotte I & Gavotte II ou la Musette from English Suite #3 in Gminor A couple of slips entering the trills, but overall very nicely done!

32. NancyM333 - Revolutionary Etude (Opus 10, No. 12) This is a challenging piece, and it's wonderful that you took up the challenge! A tad too much pedal for my taste resulting in some blurring where I think clarity should be the hallmark. You refer to "final product" but I hope you keep working on this. You have a good feel for the piece and are now positioned to bring it up to speed and polish it.

33. Ode2Joy1 - Chopin Mazurka in D Major, Op. 33 No.2 I noticed a couple of very minor hesitations -- usually where the piece bridges. Good job on the tempo -- keeping the left hand steady is a must for Chopin. Nice touch on the ornamentation.

34. b528nf7 (Bill) - Someone To Watch Over Me This is one of my favorite Gershwin songs! There was a twangy component to the right hand -- don't know if it's the piano or the recording. Well done!

35. PaulMac - Minuet in G Nicely done -- good control of the tempo and you brought out the lilting quality of the piece.

36. mahlzeit - Recital 17 The title needs a little work, but the music is nice and it's nicely played.

37. Alleykatt - Cathy - Theme & Variations From The Moldau I love The Moldau -- I can hear the river rolling down as it passes the composer's location. Such an evocative piece. You played these variations very well.

38. Norah - Le Onde I really don't know Einaudi (even though I've heard a number of his pieces on this forum) so can't comment on the accuracy to the score. This seems well played and you control the tempo and phrasing well.

39. Mark... - Prelude in A Major Op. 28, No. 7 A decidedly good effort! From a technical standpoint, try working on connecting each phrase so that it acts as a whole.

40. Eighty8 - In My Life Very well done! Really enjoyable to listen to. Hmmm...no harpsichord sound...darn!

More to follow...

Ed

Thanks Ed
Perhaps also because he spent over 20 Years in Paris and admits being influenced by Debussy, Ravel and Fauré.

Cheers

After the Work Week From Hell, I'm finally able to get back to my comments...

15. ladypayne - Canon in D I do love the Canon, and this is such a pretty arrangement.

16. Schubertian - Variations Hob. III/77 Well, your version of sight-reading is quite different than what happens when *I* sight-read. This sounded wonderful, and I appreciated learning the history of the piece.

17. Mr Super Hunky - Waterfalls Well, you’ve achieved your life goal, super-hunky, because *I* would certainly order your sheet music if you ever made it available. This is a beautiful piece, and I continue to see progress in the complexity of your compositions.

18. tdvance (Todd Vance) - Sonatina, Op. 13, No. 1, 1st mvt. I’m not familiar with Kabalevsky. Is he modern? This piece has a nice jazzy air to it that I don’t associate with classical music.

19. timmyab - Impromptu op 142 no 2 Lots of powerful chords at the beginning, and delicate arpeggios later. You do a great job of controlling the dynamics.

20. mattodono - Musette in D Major BWV Anh. 126 This is one of the most “hummable” of Bach’s pieces. It’s a nice perky piece, and you make it sound fun to play.

21. mcasl - Erster Verlust, from the 'Album for the young' by Schumann, Op. 68, 16 I’ve never read the Goethe that was evidently the inspiration for this piece, but the music and your playing of it conveys the nostalgic sadness that “First Loss” connotes.

22. Jazzwee - Stella by StarlightThat sounded infinitely more polished than a one-recording improv to me. wow I really liked your ending flourish.

23. LaValse - Etude Op 2 I obviously need to look into Scriabin’s work more. I didn’t realize that he wrote such dark, beautiful pieces. I don’t remember your first rendition of this piece, LaValse, but this one sounds terrific to me.

37 - Transcription of Smetana's The Moldau played by Alleykatt. I've listened to this symphonic poem for many thousand times, but this is the first time I hear this piano transcription. Very nice transcription and beautifully played. It's now the 4th time I listen to your piece.

34. b528nf7 (Bill) - Someone To Watch Over Me

Bill - nice job on the Gershwin tune - one of my favorites.

35. PaulMac - Minuet in G

PaulMac - nice job on the Minuet in G - you might want to note that musicologists now credit this piece, some few centuries after it's composition, to one Christian Petzold (God only knows how they came to that conclusion, and I'm sure that several centuries from now they'll give it back to old J.S.) laugh

38. Norah - Le Onde

Norah - good work on the Einaudi piece - well played.

39. Mark... - Prelude in A Major Op. 28, No. 7

Mark - good effort on the Prelude!

40. Eighty8 - In My Life

Eighty8 - one of my favorite Beatles' tunes - good job.

More to follow...

Some more...

38. Norah - Le Onde Norah, you should be very happy with this recording, it sounds very good. This is a very pretty piece and you played it great!

39. Mark... - Prelude in A Major Op. 28, No. 7 Mark, I think all of Chopin is "ambitious"! I think it's great that you were willing to have a go at it and you did a great job. I think you could take a piece like this and work on it for just about the rest of your life and still not be happy! Thanks for sharing!

40. Eighty8 - In My Life Loved this sweet tune! You captured the feel of the piece well and I felt like singing along with your music! Also, it was interesting reading the information about how the original was recorded. Thanks!

41. DragonPianoPlayer - Chopin Prelude No 6 Very beautifully played. Great dynamics and passion in your playing. I enjoyed listening. Thanks so much!

42. eggsdeee - Alt Wien (Old Vienna) This was lovely. You had a nice touch for this piece. I thought you did a good job with the dynamics and expression. It definitely felt like Old Vienna! Thank you for sharing, I enjoyed listening!

43. Coldsalmon - Preludes Op.28 No. 15 in D-flat Major, Raindrop Wow! This was beautiful. I loved the really intense and passionate parts of the piece and you played them very well and then made a great transition at the end! I felt like you really had a great connection with this piece. I enjoyed it very much!!

44. bluekeys - I Will Bluekeys, I just adored this sweet arrangement of a song I already love! I thought you did a great job in connecting with the feel & expression of the piece. Thank you so much for all the hard work so that I could listen to and enjoy it!! It definitely didn't suck!!!!!!!

45. Quagles - Dear You Quagles - this is a very pretty piece and I'm so glad to know that this is a piece that inspired you to learn piano. After hearing it, I can understand why. I think your playing was really good and I enjoyed listening to you. I was surpised to see you've only been playing for 7 months! I really look forward to hearing you as you progress. Thank you!

46. pianahman (Richard Griffin) - Arabesque Wow Richard, this was absolutely wonderul. I thought you played the piece perfectly! You sound so connected with the music. I especially loved the beautiful dreamy ending. The background you posted also helped me to fully appreciate the each part of the piece. Thank you very much!!

47. Inlanding/Glen - Prelude in C Major BWV 846 Glen - Wow, Bach! This is the first time I heard you play this type of music and I'm so glad. I loved it! I think you did a great job with the dynamics. I really haven't played much Bach but I had a difficult time hearing where phrases began & ended, so if I have any technical advice it would be to just watch that a bit. Great job and thanks again for sharing. I always enjoy your playing!

48. Musictuary - Sonatina in C Major - Op. 55 No. 1 Hi Musictuary. I have recently been playing Kuhlau and just love his music. It's so fun to play. I think you did a great job with this piece. As far as technical feedback, my only suggestion would be to really bring out the dynamics. I think for Kahlau, the loud and soft really add to the expression of the piece. Otherwise, thanks for the awesome job. I hope to play this as well as you someday!

49. Tenolios - Vesper from Casino Royale This is a Very pretty and peaceful piece, a little sad too, and you played it very well. I enjoyed listening to it to this morning, but it makes me want to relax and not get anything done! Thank you.

50. Euan Morrison - Opening (from Glassworks) Very pretty piece. I like the way it sounds now but I agree, it would be interesting to slow it down a little and add a bit more expression. I think you have a very nice touch on the piano.

51. IPIBAHN Sandy - Consolation Op. 19 No. 4 I'm not familiar with this piece but it definitely sounded very spiritual to me. I know you said that it is still a work in progress, I think it sounded beautiful and I enjoyed listening to it. Thank you.

52. Monica K. - Berlin Song This was played beautifully Monica. I find it very difficult, as it take a good amount of discipline, to play repeating chords and get them to sound legato and gentle, so to speak. You have such a nice touch. Thank you for sharing.

53. jotur - Bethena I really love Joplin so kudos to you for learning this piece. I definetly think you have a great start and I really look forward to hearing more from you on the piano bar!! Thanks!!

Excuses in advance if I sound blunt and negative - I am very quick at hearing the less good parts and you asked feedback so I give my unfiltered direct response. I will try to include positive feedback too

17. Recording technical - Nice sounding piano. Your record level is too high, or maybe the mic, but it is clipping. Can you can hear the "buzzes" in the recording at the moment you hit the keys harder?

23. Great performance! One of the two here that I listened to the end. Recording technical ok, basses sound bit closed up. Maybe that's your piano.

25. Recording technically: Nice open sound, round bass. One of the best recording I heard here considering just mic technique etc. Weird cut just before halfway.

30. Nice swing! Maybe you can experiment a bit more even. Recording Technical: Nice open sound, good bass. high notes sing a lot, I would say a bit too much but it suits your music. Also a bit metallic sound in middle. Maybe it's your piano, or maybe your mic.

32. Wow that's a big showpiece you try to play... Nice try! But I think it needs twice as fast and LOUD-- this is one of the pieces that requires you to hit the keys - no the entire piano - through the floor ;-) Technical, sounds fair, lows sound bit muffled and highs a bit off, well you can't expect too much from a camera mic

39. Technical feedback. Sounds good but mic level bit too high.. clipping.

42. Going nice. Technical feedback. Lots of noise and weird sounds. Basses are filtered out. Treble sounds ok. Get better mic, for your stuff rolling basses are important.

46. Nice playing, I particularly like the phrasing, pulling on the rythm and dynamics. Maybe you can put some more dynamics in the second part. Technical feedback. Very strange sound balance and poofs. Sounds like recorded through a tube. Especially midrange. Maybe your mic is too close to piano?

52. Nice overall, only comment is that to my taste you can give this piece a tad more bass. Technical feedback. Sounds good. Video recording good, nice color, little overexposure on right sheet. I think I hear some mp3 compression artefacts at some notes.

54. Technical feedback. Reasonable open but sounds bit pipy (is that good word?) particularly in middle. I hear humming in recording, particularly at the start.

56. I can almost hear Dieskau (that's the version I have here) singing. Nice. Are you playing at different height than Dieskau is singing? Technical, one of best recording over here. nice open basses, one of the best I heard here. midrange very lightly pipey. But I can imagine you find it too heavy, Schubert probably had a much lighter piano where you can bang nicely on the basses without overloading. Would it help if you play una corda (or how do you call it, I mean left pedal)?

Digitals -- sorry, I tried a few but I can't stand the sound, typically get annoyed with it in 30 seconds.

24. TX-Dennis (Dennis Turner) - When I Fall In Love What a lovely, calming piece—a perfect way to start my work week. Your arrangement was impressive, as well.

25. ddh - Daniel - La fuente y la campana (The Fountain and the Bell) I don’t know if Mompou can ever reach the pinnacle of fame that is Einaudi, wink but you are a wonderful ambassador for him. This is a pretty piece, and the middle section had a delightful mysterious air.

26. Serge88 - What A Wonderful World This song never fails to grab me by the heartstrings, and I love your playing of it. The arrangement is beautiful, and that run of yours at the very end is a very effective way to finish the song.

27. AnotherSchmoe - Eyes On Me Count me in as one of the Uematsu fans! You did a wonderful job with this piece, and I consider you to be one of the poster boys for what is possible to accomplish self-teaching. Truly impressive!

28. Teodor Tenchev - The Little Shepherd's Song Congratulations on your first recital entry! I think you’re doing fantastic for having played only 3 months. thumb You give this piece a nice lilting air.

29. HomeInMyShoes (Aaron) - op. 15, nos. 1, 4 & 8 Okay, so I’m bitterly jealous that you can play such complex stuff so well in a single take. laugh I especially liked your no. 1.

30. Monster M&H /Les - Misty I have been quite eager to hear your Steinway rebuild, and this did not disappoint. You should be justifiably proud of both your playing and rebuilding skills!

31. CMohr - Gavotte I & Gavotte II ou la Musette from English Suite #3 in Gminor Bach is tricky enough, but trills in both hands?! Oof. eek My hat's off to you...

More tomorrow...

Rest of the feedback...

54. MaryBee - Sonata Facile in C, K.545, Mvt.1 I love Mozart too, so fun to play. I have played this in the past and had to work quite awhile to get
it to the point you have it. I think it sounds really good. You did a great job on the trills and scales. So far all your hard work has paid off, I really
enjoyed listening to you!

55. epf - Swipsey Love this Joplin piece and I thought you really played it really well! It was an absolute pleasure to just sit back and listen!!
Thank you!

56. grotrianer - Ständchen Wow - this was gorgeous!!! I cannot imagine it being played any better! I am adding it to my permanent playlist so I can
listen to you play whenever I want. Thank you so very much for sharing!!

57. Mateusz 'Mati' Papiernik - Lute Prelude in c minor (BWV 999) This was great! I had not heard this before but it does sound very complex. It was
short but very powerful!! I enjoyed listening!

58. TTigg / Steve C - Life & Death Hi Steve, this is very pretty but definitely sad music. I thought you did a really good job at bringing out this emotion. Thanks for playing it and If I ever watch the show "Lost" I will listen for it and think of you!!

59. Bunneh - Valse a minor, op. posth. Bunneh, I enjoyed listening to this very much. I think you did a great job on bringing out the melody and keeping the left hand quieted. I enjoyed listening, thanks!

60. Always Wanted to Play Piano - Sonatina Op.36 No.1 in C major - Movements 2 and 3 Ah yes, Clementi! I love his music and I find it so fun to play. I think you played the dynamics well. I think his music takes quite a bit of disipline to play, and you did a good job. I enjoyed listening!

61. Mar_red - Kasztany (Chestnuts) & Suicide Is Painless (Medley) This was so great! I enjoyed listening to you play a great deal! These tunes may be oldies, but they are goodies!! Your music made me feel happy because it so sounded as though you were having the time of your life playing! Thank you!

62. Yamaha G3 & P-80 Mike White - E lucevan le stelle Hi Mike! What an intense and passionate piece. I love those low notes! Thank you for sharing and I will look forward to hearing your Chopin piece in the future!

63. ShiroKuro - Summer I'm so glad you chose to share this piece with us. I think it is really a pretty piece and I could hear the intense thunderstorm and light rain on the summer day! You play beautifully!! At the end of the piece I picture a boy running freely through a field on a warm summer day. So peaceful!! Thank you again!

64. BB Player - Comptine d'autre ete BB Player, I'm so glad you submitted this as I wouldn't want Yann to be upset with the forum - lol! I love this piece. You played it flawlessly. I hope to be able to play it as well someday!! Thank you!

65. Copper - When I Fall in Love Copper, this sweet tune was very nicely played. I also thought the backing track added a perfect touch. Thank you for submitting, I enjoyed listening.

66. Augustina - Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring Augustina, I think you played this well, definitely bringing out the spirituality of the piece. My only suggestion would be to maybe work on making the left hand a bit more legato but otherwise, very well done!! Thank you!

67. EJR (Elwyn) - Solfeggietto Elwyn - Wow, I thought your playing was fantastik! You have a very nice touch. My only suggestion is to really pay attention to the dynamics as there are a couple parts that could be very strongly expressed. Otherwise, awesome!! Thanks.

68. Sam Smith - Bach Invention #1 Sam, very nice playing. I know what you mean about feeling exposed! This is a piece that even a small mistake can be very distinct. I didn't hear mistakes and I enjoyed listening very much!! Thank you so much!

69. wj3 - Irish Medley, Wild Irish Rose, When Irish Eyes are Smiling and Londonderry Air wj3- by any chance are you Irish?! LOL. What a pleasure it was to hear these tunes played on your 1906 upright. I know these songs and was tapping my foot and singing along!! Thank you so much for submitting. I enjoyed listening!!

37. Alleykatt - Cathy - Theme & Variations From The Moldau The sound of the recording of this piece is absolutely fantastik! Thanks for the help Triryche, your the greatest!!

Thank you Monica.

I can only aspire to become as good an ambassador to Mompou as You are to Einaudi.

Cheers.

Thanks for listening and commenting, wouter79;
I re-listened to my piece several times and can't seem to find the "Weird cut". Could You be more specific so that I may improve my recording technique.

Thanks again.

Thank you to all the organizers of this latest recital.....a job well done. I have really enjoyed listening to everybody and I am so grateful to have something such as this to push me to complete pieces to a decent level. A little OT....(sorry but can't help it) I am late in replying to all the kind words that have been said as I have been attending the Olympics that are in nearby Whistler/Vancouver. Things have certainly gone wrong at times, but it has been a fantastic event!!! I have particularly enjoyed meeting people from around the world, totally enjoying the enthusiasm that everyone brings to the games. Much like this forum, very global experience. If you have heard negative media comments, please believe that most people are having a great time.

1) Liszt Addict Nocturne Op 9 No 1
A wonderful way to open the recital.

2) AnthonyB Nefeli
I would like to try this piece next and would love to end up with it sounding like yours. This is exactly how I like his music played. Really nicely done!

3) Ken
I can see why people enjoy playing Bach. Your selection was very pleasant to listen to.

4) z32/Ben
This is a bit outside the realm of what I usually listen to and I thank you for expanding my horizons. Very soothing music.

5)BenPiano
I particularly liked 2 things: your youtube video showing finger positions (looking very relaxed), and your very instructional interpretation in words.

6)dannylux/Mel
Very complex sounding. A nice job!

7)tenleftthumbs
Slow Blues in G was very inspiring. And it being your own composition just makes it that more special.

8)Peyton
I think we are all interested in who Anne is!

9)Manndrew
I have always loved this song and you did a wonderful job of interpreting the music

10)joangolfing
I really enjoyed this and like many of the other posters...am very interested in learning more about Vandall.

11)John Frank
This was so cool. Very nicely put together.

12)TrueBeginner
Very relaxing music and am always impressed with those who compose.

13)Riddler
I love Miles Davis and listen to Kind of Blue all the time. But for some reason, I find some of his music difficult to understand, as if there is something I am missing. Don't quite know. Your selection, seriously, filled in some of the missing pieces for me, for this type of music. Enjoyed it.

14)Strings and Wood
Sounded beautiful. You did a nice job.

More to follow

Norah,
I am a huge winter Olympics fan and my wife and I have been watching all of the games. Wish we could be there, it would be great. We were at Whistler/Blackcomb, with friends skiing, a few years back and had a fabulous time. My wife took her parents to Vancouver for ten days a summer back and they great time as well- loved the city!. There are always a few hiccups at the games, but overall have not heard anything negative.

I'm enjoying everyones positive comments. Always appreciated.

Wouter79, your spot on with the recording "clipping" comment. I set the recording level (gain) on the Zoom at 70% of the medium setting. This works great overall but will clip/distort if I bang or play too aggressivly in sections. Not nessesarrily too loudly in volume but too much attack. This usually seems to clip/distort the recording at nearly every level and is purely lack of technique as opposed to a recording error.

Your comment was very much appreciated as I seem to be repeating this mistake over and over and need someone to bring it to my attention. Very helpful.

Thanks very much to everyone that left a comment on my piece. As I've got a few spare hours I thought it only fair to return the favour.I'd like to include everyone but I think it would turn into a marathon and I'm rubbish at it anyway.I have picked out a couple of extra performances that I felt deserved a special mention.I apologize to the people I've missed out, I know how much effort goes into making a decent recording.
01. LisztAddict - Nocturne Op 9 No 1
This is hypnotic playing which to me is exactly how most of the nocturnes should sound. When they're played well they send me into a trancelike state somewhere between being awake and asleep.I've played this myself in the past but could never get those awkward runs to sound as smooth as you have them here.
04. z32/Ben - Dream
I like this piece and your playing is very good indeed for 3 years.
05. BenPiano - Adagio in B minor KV 540 (to do)
I'm incredibly impressed with this for 8 months. The pacing is excellent and the whole piece hangs together just as it's meant to.In fact, I honestly think I'd struggle to find much to complain about even if I tried. If you continue to develop at this rate you're going to be a top notch pianist in no time.
09. Manndrew - Danny Boy (to do)
Wonderful chords in this.Good job, it sounds very difficult to play.
14. Strings & Wood/CarlMc - Prelude in E minor OP. 28 No. 4
This is convincingly played. At first I thought there was too much rubato but you won me over, and with this piece more than most, that's not easy.
22. Jazzwee - Stella by Starlight
I love this, even though I don't know the tune you're improvising on.I always wanted to be able to improvise like this but have a shocking ear for it, much to the horror of my father who's an excellent jazz guitarist. The P-155 sounds great, I'm going to get one as soon as I can afford it.
23. LaValse - Etude Op 2
I really enjoyed this very much.Love the voicing and the overall structure of the piece, masterfully done.I bought the Dover edition of the preludes a couple of months ago and this is the only one I've looked at so far, the only thing I noticed is that it's much more difficult than it sounds.
24. TX-Dennis (Dennis Turner) - When I Fall In Love
Another of my favorite songs.Nicely arranged and sensitively played.
I can't help but think of Nat when I hear this, what an awesome pianist he was.
25. ddh - Daniel - La fuente y la campana (The Fountain and the Bell)
This is the first Mompou I've listened to and you make a good advocate for him.It puts me in mind of somebody and I can't quite think who, would it be Satie?
You play very fluently for three years and a bit.
27. AnotherSchmoe - Eyes On Me
You play confidently and convincingly, especially as you've not been playing that long.Don't you just love the sound of that P-155.
29. HomeInMyShoes (Aaron) - op. 15, nos. 1, 4 & 8
No 1 is virtually flawless to my ears.Very interesting take on no 4, it's a little gem of a piece and I've not heard it played like that before.
As you say no 8 needs a little work but you have the feel for it and it is one of the more difficult pieces from Kinderscenen. It sounds like you're well on your way to mastering this beautiful work.
31. CMohr - Gavotte I & Gavotte II ou la Musette from English Suite #3 in Gminor
This sounds like a very tough piece to me.I should think it's a great workout for both the mind and the fingers.
Well done for getting so far with it.
34. b528nf7 (Bill) - Someone To Watch Over Me
Fantastic!!How you can play so well and sing at the same time is beyond me, I'd settle for being able to play like it.
The song itself is just about a perfect synthesis of words and music.I've been getting interested lately in piano arrangements of songs by Gershwin and Cole Porter, I'd like to learn some.
37. Alleykatt - Cathy - Theme & Variations From The Moldau
I think I recognize the main theme in this, isn't it from Ma Vlast?Anyway, whatever, it's very pretty and convincingly played.
39. Mark... - Prelude in A Major Op. 28, No. 7
Very accurately played, piano sounds good.Keep working on the phrasing and pedaling and it's going to sound great.
47. Inlanding/Glen - Prelude in C Major BWV 846
Nicely done. It's so difficult to make anything of this piece but you make it sound interesting.
51. IPIBAHN Sandy - Consolation Op. 19 No. 4
I love Mendelssohn, but like you say there are lots of hidden technical challenges and I often find myself thinking, how can something that beautiful be that difficult.Even so, you're getting on with this just fine and I can tell that you've got great musicality.
52. Monica K. - Berlin Song
I must confess to not being a great fan of Einaudi as yet although I'm getting an education from a lot of people on this forum so that may change.Anyway, you play it to a very high standard and the piano sounds lovely. Also thanks for all the effort you've put into sorting this recital out, it must be a lot of work.
54. MaryBee - Sonata Facile in C, K.545, Mvt.1
You sound like you're having a great time with this and not a single wrong note as far as I can tell.
Yes, the title "facile" is rather misleading I think and I've always found it baffling.I had a torrid time with it as a beginner and in the end decided that I must be unbelievably thick if this was supposed to be easy.In retrospect though I can see that it's a very good technique primer for beginners, even if it is a bit overwhelming at first.
55. epf - Swipsey
Thanks for this, it's impossible not to feel happy listening to Scott Joplin.
59. Bunneh - Valse a minor, op. posth.
It's amazing to me how good people can get in such a short time!I think you'll make a great Chopin player.
I'd like to offer you some critical feedback but for a start I'm rubbish at it, and for another I don't think you need a lot.Just keep doing what you're doing, it seems to be working.
68. Sam Smith - Bach Invention #1
Well played, these inventions are never easy.I did battle with this one myself last year and came off decidedly second best. The ornaments are unusual and give it an individual character.

Timmyab, thank You for your kind comments; always greatly appreciated.

Mompou admits being influenced by the great french piano composers of his time, especially Fauré, Debussy, Ravel and Satie.

"Mompou had the knack of absorbing influences from various composers while writing music that was quite dissimilar to theirs. Despite his shyness he interacted with other musicians and became acquainted with the leading edge of French music of the early twentieth century. He admired the iconic composers of Paris during the years of World War I, and took something from each of them. Like Claude Debussy, he eschewed any strong sense of directional motion in music, preferring to paint musical colors on an almost static background. Like Maurice Ravel, he was fascinated by the world of childhood and the musical creativity that seemed to reside near its surface; he had a gift for melodies that seemed unassuming, but haunted listeners, who responded to his unique language. From the unconventional, ironic Erik Satie he inherited a belief that radical simplicity had its place, and he showed the same tendency to go his own way rather than follow the prevailing musical fashion. The harmonic stasis of Mompou's music was matched by an absence of strong rhythmic drive; he frequently wrote his music without bar lines separating one rhythmic unit from another."

So your ears are not deceiving You in perceiving in his music, the colors of that era.
Personnaly, I am a big fan of all these composers but my heart lies with Mompou's music.

Cheers

First I want to say, nice job everyone, I have been listening to everyone's recording and to say the least...it's impressive, the wide variety of music posted.

I want to thank everyone that took the time to post a comment and it's much appreciated. That's a monumental task and I applaud those that put forth the time and effort...Thanks again.

41. DragonPianoPlayer - Chopin Prelude No 6
There were some nice mood changes in your performance. You kept an even tempo throughout. A very nice interpretation of this prelude.

42. eggsdeee - Alt Wien (Old Vienna)
I really enjoy hearing pieces for the first time. This has a pretty melody and you played it lightly to keep the mood bright. Well done.

43. Coldsalmon - Preludes Op.28 No. 15 in D-flat Major, Raindrop
The pulsating note was very well controlled and your moving from pianissimo to forte was quite good. The reintroduction of the melody was nicely done. Barely a heart beat at the end – great control.

44. bluekeys - I Will
I loved this. Great arrangement. It’s so much more interesting I think than the instrumentation of the original. I don’t believe you’re giving yourself enough credit. You played very well. Makes me want to open up my Beatles songbook.

45. Quagles - Dear You
Well for only 7 months of playing your touch and hand independence are extremely solid. I’d say you showed dynamics of left hand versus right well above your level.
I liked this song. Fine job.

46. pianahman (Richard Griffin) - Arabesque
Richard, wonderful performance on this piece. You seemed to handle all the tempo and dynamic changes effortlessly. You’re obviously a very accomplished player. Thank you also for the background description of the piece.

47. Inlanding/Glen - Prelude in C Major BWV 846
Glen this was a real surprise after all the standards and improvisational pieces we’ve heard from you. This really shows your range as a player. You kept the bass nice and soft and pulsating. The gradual dynamic shift was very effective. A fine performance.

48. Musictuary - Sonatina in C Major - Op. 55 No. 1
Very smoothly played. Excellent control. Your touch on the keyboard was well suited for the piece. A fine finish. Your Kawai sounds great.

49. Tenolios - Vesper from Casino Royale
This was a beautiful theme. I don’t remember it from the film. Played very well. You held back nicely in the beginning and built to a strong finish.

50. Euan Morrison - Opening (from Glassworks)
Euan, this piece sounds very tricky rhythmically. You did great coordinating those “triples” and “duples.” Your dynamic range was effective-I liked the louder section-it really pulsated. Excellent job.
