The asking price is $32000. Is it a fair price?
Also I would like to know the price of for Boston 193 which is a 6"4'piano. The price given by the dealer is $29,000. This is 2009 model.
Looking for a brand piano for my son.
Thanks!

There's free pricing information provided in the Acoustic & Digital Piano Buyer. It is very helpful to read the entire introductory section before looking at the pricing chart. www.pianobuyer.comAs you can see there, prices can vary based on the finish of the instrument as well as from market to market in the US. Did the '02 model L come from a private home? An institution? A rental instrument? Is it being sold as new (with a new manufacturer warranty), used with a dealer warranty, or as-is? This may help get better answers for you. My gut reaction is the price for the Steinway is pretty good (depending on condition), while the Boston could be a little lower. I don't sell pianos, so I'm not an authority on this, though.

Thanks! The steinway is sold by a dealer. I do not know the exact information about the warranty yet. The dealer said the piano was from a private owner and seldom used since they were oversears form many years between 2002 to now. Thanks again for your kind reply.

I own a Boston (GP178) and to all intents and purposes own a S&S D (Hamburg). I am not a massive fan of the L for my purposes but even so.....
.....This is a no brainer. If the age of the Steinway checks out and you can afford it, get the Steinway over the Boston. It will maintain its value far better than the Boston ever will and is a superior instrument.
Don't fret too much about warranty. Get the piano checked out by an independent technician. A 2002 instrument is unlikely to have major faults that would be covered by a warranty that have not shown up by now. 2002 is still young for a piano.
If you like the Steinway and want to spend this sort of money, negotiate a bit and then do the deal. There is nothing wrong with Boston's but in the end they are wannabe Steinway's so do yourself a favour and get the real thing if that sound appeals to you.
A secondary factor is that if you ever decide or need to sell, the Steinway will be easier to shift and for a significantly better price than the Boston.

Between the two, without playing either one, to me, the Steinway L is the clear winner here. AJB said that. But....for $32,000 I would be looking at some other pianos too. Being an M&H fan, that amount of cash can get you a new Mason & Hamlin or an even better model just a couple of years old. That can be said about a number of manufacturers. Definitely worth spending some time to put together a wish list of pianos you want to see before purchasing either of the two pianos you specify. If after you have gone through your list you still want either of the pianos you name, you will know you are doing the right thing. If it was me, and you asked, I would probably choose a different piano. At least I am honest about my bias. Look for used M&H BB, used Shiguru Kawaii, used Steinway and you know there will be other suggestions from knowledgeable forum members. Oh, I almost forgot, ESTONIA! Man, you have some great options. Don't settle for something almost good enough, you can get something you are proud of with that budget.

Great posts so far.
For my money between the S&S L and the Boston - the Steinway is a no brainer.
JSC0324 makes a good point as well. There are some tremendous pianos out there just waiting to be auditioned. Good luck in your choice and keep us posted.
