16- Shuberterian- that was very nice! Well played. 17- Mr. SH- great original melodies. I like how you put them all together to make one composition. 19. timmyab- Wow!! Excellent playing and a very nice interpretation. I can tell you have been playing this for a while... you are not struggling...you own it. 21. mcsal- I've always found this such a sad little Schumann tune. Well played. I think I would slow it down just a bit with a touch more of rubato but that might just be me. 22.jazzwe- Sweet! What a fantastic improvisation. I wish I could begin to play jazz as well. 23.LaValse- Now I'm really jealous. I think I've started this piece two or three times and never get anywhere (probably tried again the last time you submitted it). And you play it so well! Great feeling. Bravo!~!

ddh,
Listen at 1:32. The bass of part 1 is still fading out, you hear a click and then another piece (part 2?) starts somewhere halfway?

ddh,
"Could You be more specific so that I may improve my recording technique."
Mmm that is very hard to suggest without being there and with a mp3-compressed file. I can try to attach to my stereo if you put a wav file somewhere ;-)
Regarding sound quality I can't give further hints, as I don't know how a Pramberger is supposed to sound. I hear room for "improvement" but it seems that mainly your instrument sounds that way.
What you could try is put the mic a bit further away to get a bit more of the room acoustics in the recording. I like to hear the room acoustics but most people these days seem to prefer a dry cut so it's up to you to determine if you like that.

super-hunky,
It is quite common to leave 12dB headroom with normal music. Piano maybe even more. So I would suggest to check your peak level first for clipping and then drop an additional 6 to 12 dB to start with.

Thanks wouter79; sorry, I don't hear anything abnormal at or around 1:32: old ears, I guess. Oh well... This was my first recording with the H4n. I will be experimenting much more before the may recital and hope to find a position for the unit, as well as volume setting that will produce a better recording. I tried to put the unit further but didn't like it; I will try again with intermediate positions. Thanks again for your help; appreciate much. Cheers

This sounds like a very tough piece to me.I should think it's a great workout for both the mind and the fingers. Timmyab-Thanks for commenting! It was a workout - but after a while the fingers take over for the brain, and it helped to sing it in my head. I continue to work on this piece.

continuing on.... 33)Ode2Joy1 Piano sounds great. Lots of interesting dynamics
27)Another Schmoe (which I earlier missed) Had a little relaxing, sleepy moment just now, listening to Eyes On Me.
34)b528nf7 First of all, nice piano Bill. Secondly...enjoyed your youtube video
35)PaulMac You are doing very well for 1 year. This is a piece that probably many of us remember playing at some time. Brought back lots of good and bad memories. Your playing was good, mine was bad.
36)mahlzeit And a good whipping together it is.
37)Alleykatt Very dramatic
39) Mark.... Even though it is short and relatively simple, getting the dynamics right can be a very ambitious project for sure. Sorry to hear about the snow!
40)Eight8 From the very first bar...loved it
41)DragonPianoPlayer Chopin is certainly a very popular entry at this recital. Nice job.
42)eggsdeee very advanced sounding
43)coldsalmon very envious of your smooth playing
44)bluekeys old dude (your words!) sounds good
45)Good grasp for only 7 mos.
46)pianahman this just sounds really difficult to play. Congratulations
47)Inlanding Nice, even and clean
48)Musictuary Loved it. Showing my ignorance.....I am not familiar with Friedrich Kuhlau. I find it very interesting and also impressive that you are studying his music at such a depth.
More to come. Thanks to everyone.

Thanks, Norah! Everything is "killer" to record for me! Btw, I'm so jealous that you're at the Winter Olympics - we had been planning to attend but the plans fell through - we have alot of friends up in that area. All news here has been good concerning the games.

29. HomeInMyShoes (Aaron) - op. 15, nos. 1, 4 & 8 Okay, so I’m bitterly jealous that you can play such complex stuff so well in a single take. I especially liked your no. 1. If you knew how long I've been working on these pieces you wouldn't be so jealous. Seriously, I first worked on No. 1 twenty years ago and then a few years back I picked it up again for a couple of months and now I'm on it's third life with me over about a year this time. No. 4 is new from about a year ago and no. 8 is new from about five months ago. That's an awful long time for what ends up being 40 bars of music. I learn pretty quickly to about 60% and then the last 40% takes me forever. It's a function of my crappy practice habits which I'm trying to fix. I spend too much time playing which might be good for touch and interpretation, but terrible for accuracy. Thanks for the comments again everyone. I'll have to listen to a few more recordings of 4 and see if I'm happy with where I put it without anchoring myself to conventions.

10. joangolfing - Prelude No. 4 in F Major Very nicely played!
11. John Frank - Ashokan Farewell Wow, I guess I'm not the only one to say this, but very nice use of strings! Lovely to listen to!
12. TrueBeginner - Until Dawn Great job! I enjoyed reading about how you composed this piece. It's exciting to have original compositions in the recital. It gives us all a measure of courage I think!
13. Riddler (Ed) - On Green Dolphin Street Wonderful!! Di you explain somewhere how you recorded this? Did the backing track come with your digital, or is it on a CD? Is the track something you can control the tempo of? It sounds really great, how did you record it? And last but not least, your piano playing is great!
14. Strings & Wood/CarlMc - Prelude in E minor OP. 28 No. 4 This is one of my favorite preludes! I really enjoyed your rendition of it! I hope to play this eventually, and I will certainly listen back to tour version for some hints.
15. ladypayne - Canon in D I find the Canon so satisfying to play! It's long-ish and requires a fair amount of concentration, but there's something really compelling about it. You are playing it very well I think. If you can bring the differents all to the same tempo, it will give an even nicer, pulled together feeling.
16. Schubertian - Variations Hob. III/77 I am not familiar with this music, but I really enjoyed listening to you play it!
17. Mr Super Hunky - Waterfalls Either I losing my memory, or I already commented on your piece, but just in case. I really enjoyed this. I love all the original music in the recital!! Great piece and great name!
18. tdvance (Todd Vance) - Sonatina, Op. 13, No. 1, 1st mvt. Sounds good! And you and I have the same piano! :)

51. IPIBAHN Sandy - Consolation Op. 19 No. 4 Sandy, this was beautiful. The theme stood out very well. You played this with obvious feeling. Excellent control of your dynamics. I’m proud to say I have a Roland as well. Yours sounded great.
52. Monica K. - Berlin Song Monica, this to me is very different from the other Einaudi pieces in your repertoire. Especially that opening introduction is almost like a hymn in character. The statement of the initial theme is beautiful. There’s a lot going on in this piece with all the dynamic and tempo changes. Your playing was wonderful. Very moving.
53. jotur - Bethena Cathy, I think it should be mandatory that every recital have at least one ragtime piece. You captured the essence of this song. You have all the basic components in place and with all the stretches and jumps it is difficult to be completely smooth from start to finish, but you’re just about there. Well done. I especially liked the section that started in a minor key, I believe – great syncopation.
54. MaryBee - Sonata Facile in C, K.545, Mvt.1 I’m with you as far as the trills on this piece. They are very frustrating. Your work on the scale passages especially the left hand was quite good. And all in all your tempo was smooth and consistent. The performance improved steadily from the middle section to the end. Nicely done.
55. epf - Swipsey This sounds a lot trickier than the average rag. Pretty complex syncopations. Yours was a very good effort considering you felt rushed to get it posted.
56. grotrianer - Ständchen I really liked the beginning of the second section where the melody is carried in the left hand. This is a beautiful piece and your interpretation was excellent. Good dynamic range. I know what you mean about the “heavy texture” in the left hand. This is something I’m consistently struggling with. A nice and soft touch though at the end. Very well done.
57. Mateusz 'Mati' Papiernik - Lute Prelude in c minor (BWV 999) This is a wonderfully rhythmical and energetic piece, Mati. Reminiscent of the Prelude in C but more complex. Really good touch on the keyboard and excellent tempo throughout.
58. TTigg / Steve C - Life & Death Steve, a fine job bringing out the melody in the right hand with a controlled left hand accompaniment. This was very relaxing to listen to.
59. Bunneh - Valse a minor, op. posth. Your trills were so smooth and seamless. Some very creative use of rubato in certain sections. A very enjoyable performance and another great sounding Roland.
60. Always Wanted to Play Piano - Sonatina Op.36 No.1 in C major - Movements 2 and 3 Hey “Always,” this was very good for just 2 years experience. The basics are there in place pretty much with tempo and dynamics. I think some concentrated work on smoothing out the ornamentations to blend them into the passages in the 2nd movement would improve things. Good effort here. Especially the 3rd movement

Well what an AMAZING performance by everyone!! 69 Submission I too share Monica's work week from hell, or just :irk: at how long it's been since I could actually get to listen to the performances. I wanted to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who commented on my (short) piece. I very much appreciate the lovely feedback and encouraging words 58. TTigg / Steve C - Life & Death I was a big "Lost" fanatic. Where do you find your sheet music? The music and your playing certainly evoke the feeling of loss. I always enjoy your music.
I got this off a YouTube link where the guy had transcribed his own version, I didn't like that so I went to an online Music Sheet place (can't remember which one) and purchased a copy. It's only 1 page and 2 bars! so I just improved a little.. 58. TTigg / Steve C - Life & Death Yes, I've not watched Lost - guilty as charged. The theme music you chose fits the title. I like the audio-visual production value and as always, I fully appreciate watching you play. Hard to believe you've only been playing a year and a half. You've got talent!
Thanks man on days when I'm having "what am I doing" moments I will look at this print out! Thanks so much also to jazzwee, b528nf7, Frozenicicles, TX-Dennis, Sam Smith, Eighty8, ddh, Strings & Wood, Mary Bee, IPIBAHN-Sandy, AlleyKatt & Manndrew who all left very nice and encouraging comments on my piece. OK so here are my first 20 - going to be a BUSY day - SC 01. LisztAddict - Nocturne Op 9 No 1Beautiful playing, simly beautiful. 02. AnthonyB - Nefeli(does happy dance) I have this book also. Anthony, I am amazed at your playing and skill and it's something I look up to (especially with regards to Einaudi). I too will look this up hopefully sometime this year. You have great touch and I can really "feel" the emotion in your playing - excellent work! 03. Ken. - Minuet fait par Monsieur BohmSpirited Ken and I love the nostalgic sound of your piano! 04. z32/Ben - DreamBen as soon as I heard the first 2 bars I thought to myself (sounds familiar) Beautiful playing and great job of capturing the spirit if Yiruma’s music. 05. BenPiano - Adagio in B minor KV 5408months!! You have some serious talent there my friend, keep up the great work. Love the camera angle! 06. dannylux / Mel - Intermezzo Op.29 No.4Love the staccato Mel, very bouncy tune and I enjoyed listening to it. 07. ten left thumbs - Slow Blues in GVery interesting sounding piano. I love the licks (if that’s what they’re called) and have always been a huge fan of blues/jazz music. I hope one day in the not too distant future to have a “dabble” in this genre myself. 08. Peyton - Thoughts of AnneExcellent composing Peyton! I LOVE the sound of your piano and watch in awe as I see the strings/dampers move about in the grand cabinet.. Beautifully played with such connection to the notes.. 09. Manndrew - Danny BoyVery soothing and enjoyable to listen to, great job! 10. joangolfing - Prelude No. 4 in F MajorNot familiar with this composer. Love the chords and the melody is very flowing. Great playing, I drifted off for a moment whilst listening which is always a good thing! 11. John Frank - Ashokan FarewellExcellent work JF, loved the into too, wasn’t expecting that 12. TrueBeginner - Until DawnYou make me sick, but in a good way I love listening to your compositions, so moving, such touch and connection with the notes, thanks for putting in another excellent piece! 13. Riddler (Ed) - On Green Dolphin StreetNothing quite like “giggling” in your seat as you listen to some great music, liked it a lot! 14. Strings & Wood/CarlMc - Prelude in E minor OP. 28 No. 4Very deep and dark but in terms of playing and the sounds. Liked it a lot, great playing! 15. ladypayne - Canon in DBeautiful! Which must reminds me that I am LONG overdue to tackle the other version of this I have after finishing up in book #2 with the Alfred version. 16. Schubertian - Variations Hob. III/77I’m still trying to decide if I like Haydn’s work (lol) but I did very much enjoy your playing of it. Love the sound of your Estonia! 17. Mr Super Hunky - WaterfallsDare I say it sounded a touch “loud” but my god that gorgeous BB and it’s memorizing tunes! Very much enjoyed the composition S&H and I’m glad you continue to push your envelope out to grace us with these tunes 18. tdvance (Todd Vance) - Sonatina, Op. 13, No. 1, 1st mvt.Brilliant work Todd, and only 1yr? WOW 19. timmyab - Impromptu op 142 no 2Loved it! 20. mattodono - Musette in D Major BWV Anh. 126Captured it very well, perhaps a tad too fast but then that could also mean I play it too slow. Brings back Alfred memories of when we did this piece. Great job! more to come...

Eighty8 - In My LifeA very fond favorite of mine from yester years – nicely done indeed. 3rd will be up later on after my lesson

and the last batch..... 41. DragonPianoPlayer - Chopin Prelude No 6Very soothing and such “connected” playing. Didn’t sound like a regular type Chopin piece. 42. eggsdeee - Alt Wien (Old Vienna)Very well done. 43. Coldsalmon - Preludes Op.28 No. 15 in D-flat Major, RaindropBeautifully played 44. bluekeys - I WillNicely done indeed thanks for sharing 45. Quagles - Dear YouI enjoyed it a lot, very deep. Thank you to everyone who commented on my piece. I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant about submitting a Mozart piece. But you all made me feel like it was worthwhile, even if it needs work. BTW, I was #54 in both this recital and in my first one in November. What are the chances?! (Actually, about 1/69, I think.) I love PW ABF! Thanks for all the support!

46. pianahman (Richard Griffin) - Arabesque A very complex and beautiful piece - well played! 47. Inlanding/Glen - Prelude in C Major BWV 846 Nice playing through the distraction (didn't notice a thing). Love your blues stuff, and enjoying your foray into classical. 48. Musictuary - Sonatina in C Major - Op. 55 No. 1 Another composer I have never heard of. Quite long for a sonatina (in my brief experience) which naturally adds to the difficulty, but well played. Thanks for sharing! 49. Tenolios - Vesper from Casino Royale Lovely piece. Excellent playing for 6 months! 50. Euan Morrison - Opening (from Glassworks) Very nice! Those off-timey rhythms in each hand are a real challenge. Well played! 51. IPIBAHN Sandy - Consolation Op. 19 No. 4 This is something that I haven't heard before, but I liked it very much at this tempo - it fit nicely. Very beautiful. 52. Monica K. - Berlin Song You played this very well, and really brought out the emotion in it. I liked this a lot. 53. jotur - Bethena A real toe tapper - literally! Unfortunately toe tapping is the closest you'll get me to dancing! 54. MaryBee - Sonata Facile in C, K.545, Mvt.1 I like Mozart's music a lot as well. You should be proud of where you are with this so far - it's a difficult piece. Thanks for sharing! 55. epf - SwipseySounds like you had a lot of fun with this piece. Excellent! 56. grotrianer - Ständchen Absolutely incredible performance, and a great selection for the recital. 57. Mateusz 'Mati' Papiernik - Lute Prelude in c minor (BWV 999) You're right, this is a deceivingly difficult piece. I began this a while ago (but at a slow pace, but I like it slow too), and had to give up on it. You played this very well! 58. TTigg / Steve C - Life & Death I left a comment on your video, but I'll just add here that I think everyone should listen to this while watching the video to get the context of the piece. Loved it! (I should also mention I'm a LOST junkie)

59. Bunneh - Valse a minor, op. posth. Beautifully played. I thought the tempo was just fine as is. I'd like to learn this some day too. 60. Always Wanted to Play Piano - Sonatina Op.36 No.1 in C major - Movements 2 and 3 Now finally a piece I'm familiar with! I think it's one that's essential for us beginners - I really loved learning it. Great job tackling it, and thanks for sharing it! 61. Mar_red - Kasztany (Chestnuts) & Suicide Is Painless (Medley) Liked the turnaround. Great playing! 62. Yamaha G3 & P-80 Mike White - E lucevan le stelleWell, I'm amazed at your ability to sight read this piece. wow! 63. ShiroKuro - Summer Hey, I'm going to give you feedback anyway. That was terrific! I can now understand the admiration that many here have of your ability (even when practicing). Wow! Call me a fan too! 64. BB Player - Comptine d'autre ete Glad you decided to jump back into the recitals. Very enjoyable! 65. Copper - When I Fall in Love Beautiful and well played! Liked the strings at the end. 66. Augustina - Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring Great first submission to the recital! 67. EJR (Elwyn) - Solfeggietto Love the Baroque style. Excellent! 68. Sam Smith - Bach Invention #1 Thanks for sharing this. It was terrific! 69. wj3 - Irish Medley, Wild Irish Rose, When Irish Eyes are Smiling and Londonderry Air Woah, the recording sounded kind of crazy on my end. It felt like I was watching an old movie. Still enjoyed it - thanks for contributing!

Thanks Ben Yeah the music is ok but it really only comes into play when you watch the movie with it (how it was setup) Glad to see another LOST junkie who would appreciate these notes.. - SC

I'm probably going to be the last person still commenting.... Here's the next batch: 32. NancyM333 - Revolutionary Etude (Opus 10, No. 12) This is such a famous piece, for good reason. And starting with the very first runs, I don’t think there’s an easy measure to be played in it. Kudos to you for tackling and recording it! 33. Ode2Joy1 - Chopin Mazurka in D Major, Op. 33 No.2 The mazurka was quite a contrast in tone to the preceding Revolutionary Etude... Chopin was indeed a genius to compose in so many styles. Terrific playing; sounds to me like you will own your teacher’s recital! 34. b528nf7 (Bill) - Someone To Watch Over Me I always enjoy your playing and singing, Bill, and this is a classic song. For some reason your voice sounded more echoey and distant than usual on your recordings, but maybe it’s just me. 35. PaulMac - Minuet in G Good job on another classic; I think you’ve made impressive progress for having played only a year. 36. mahlzeit - Recital 17 Another lovely composition, mahlzeit. I personally think the title is dead brilliant in a neo-postmodern sort of way. 37. Alleykatt - Cathy - Theme & Variations From The Moldau This was beautiful. I do not often have a hankering to learn a classical piece, but this one is going on my list. I’ve heard other Lori Line arrangements I like a lot, too, so it looks like I’ll be adding to my sheet music collection. 38. Norah - Le Onde Of course this is one of my favorites of the recital. Commendable job on what I fully know is a truly difficult piece to play well. 39. Mark... - Prelude in A Major Op. 28, No. 7 Short and very sweet indeed! I can tell that the dynamics would be both a challenge and critically important to this piece. 40. Eighty8 - In My Life Oh, I can’t help but love the Beatles, and this is one of their prettiest, most bittersweet songs. I just wish you had repeated it a few times to make it longer.

Here's my last batch of comments:
41. DragonPianoPlayer - Chopin Prelude No 6 Very well played! Nice, even rhythm. You let the melody sing out clearly. There were a couple of hesitations, but they didn't detract from an otherwise enjoyable performance.
42. eggsdeee - Alt Wien (Old Vienna) Nice touch! Well played with the appropriate lilt for this era of music.
43. Coldsalmon - Preludes Op.28 No. 15 in D-flat Major, Raindrop Light and delicate where it needs to be. This is really well played. The ornamentation was well done. Good job!
44. bluekeys - I Will I don't think I've ever heard this before. I enjoyed your playing!
45. Quagles - Dear You This is another piece I don't know. MY primary suggestion is to take it easy with the damper (sustain) pedal. It really blurs the music when it's held down as much as you did here. Try playing this without the pedal and see how much crisper it sounds! You played it well, but I think you can do better!
46. pianahman (Richard Griffin) - Arabesque Oh, this is very well played. I found it most enjoyable.
47. Inlanding/Glen - Prelude in C Major BWV 846 Very nice -- no sense that anything was rushed or hurried. Good job!
48. Musictuary - Sonatina in C Major - Op. 55 No. 1 Good job! My only comment would be to watch the synchronization between the hands -- it gets off in a couple of places. This is a light and bouncy piece and you really brought that out.
49. Tenolios - Vesper from Casino Royale Hmmmm...I've seen the movie, but don't remember the music. Nicely done.
50. Euan Morrison - Opening (from Glassworks) This is about the only thing from Philip Glass that I can listen to and I like your interpretation. Nicely done!
51. IPIBAHN Sandy - Consolation Op. 19 No. 4 This sounds like you've got it well in hand. The dynamics seemed just right and the feel was perfect. Good job!
52. Monica K. - Berlin Song I love a good grilled ham and cheese -- especially when it's on a good rye! Another piece I've never heard before. This was beautifully played!
53. jotur - Bethena Well, we both had flubs i our Joplin pieces. This is well played. I have a few suggestions if you are going to keep working on this. First, you played this pretty much at the same dynamic level; try varying the dynamics in accordance with the score -- I think it will give it more life. Second, this is a concert waltz -- pick up the tempo a little more. Most of Joplin's music should be played around 120 BPM. Finally, there shouldn't be any staccato in there -- this is mostly to be played legato. Really good job, however. I know how difficult this one is to play.
54. MaryBee - Sonata Facile in C, K.545, Mvt.1 Nicely played. Good job on the ornamentation.
55. epf - Swipsey Why did you submit this? It wasn't ready for prime time.
56. grotrianer - Ständchen Nicely done. Perhaps a tad too much damper pedal for my taste, but I think you've got this well in hand.
57. Mateusz 'Mati' Papiernik - Lute Prelude in c minor (BWV 999) I think this is a wonderful first Bach piece! Very well played. Good control of tempo and dynamics. The melody really comes out nicely.
58. TTigg / Steve C - Life & Death I don't know this piece, but the title intrigued me. It starts out very dark and you certainly conveyed the heavy feeling well. The contrast between that and the lightness of the upper register was very well done.
59. Bunneh - Valse a minor, op. posth. Well done -- a little heavy on the left hand, but nothing major.
60. Always Wanted to Play Piano - Sonatina Op.36 No.1 in C major - Movements 2 and 3 Nicely played!
61. Mar_red - Kasztany (Chestnuts) & Suicide Is Painless (Medley) What an interesting medley. It sounds like you accomplished your goal of a stride-like rendition.
62. Yamaha G3 & P-80 Mike White - E lucevan le stelle For sight reading this was excellent! Good job.
63. ShiroKuro - Summer Another piece I've never heard before. I have no idea what this should sound like, but you played with confidence and made it sound like you were very comfortable with the music.
64. BB Player - Comptine d'autre ete While I've heard this piece before I can never remember it well enough to know when a mistake slips in, so I thought you did very well!
65. Copper - When I Fall in Love Nice job on this! You really put the longing into it with your accompaniment!
66. Augustina - Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring Interesting choice using strings for this. Thanks for submitting -- I was able to relax while listening to it.
67. EJR (Elwyn) - Solfeggietto I used to fall asleep listening to my father play this. You played it very well! Time for me to wake up now!
68. Sam Smith - Bach Invention #1 This is really well done, Sam. Good job on the ornamentation and on the balance between the hands!
69. wj3 - Irish Medley, Wild Irish Rose, When Irish Eyes are Smiling and Londonderry Air Ah, sure, and 'tis grand to end the recital with a bit of the Irish! Thanks for this!
Thanks to all who submitted. This was another wonderful recital.
Ed
