What's your main source of inspiration?

"Music is a higher revelation
Than all wisdom and philosophy.
Music is the electrical soil
In which the spirit lives, thinks and invents."
~ Ludwig van Beethoven ~

Listen. Listen to your own self, what are you thinking and what are you trying say to your own self and what are you trying say to others when you’re playing. What do you tell yourself about your music? What do you tell others? Do you ever find more than one voice or conversation going on in your own head? Just noticing your own voice can open up many avenues for inspiration.

Awareness. Perhaps the most important key, awareness will allow you to notice in more detail what you are experiencing as you learn or play your music. Plus you will enjoy the music and what you are experiencing from moment to moment. Is your concern the audiences or the room you’re playing in, the piano you have to play or the lesson's you never really learned and now your trying to apply to your playing.

Intention and Focus. It's pretty hard to get somewhere without focus. If you can focus, listen and remain aware as you play, you may be surprised at how many choices open up. Perhaps your first aspiration or intention could be to discover your source of inspiration and true aspiration.

Just curious and any and all feedback would be appreciated.

I agree with Ludwig. I do not think about inspiration. When I play, practice, perform, I feel like I am inside the piece, inside the tune. I don't worry about lessons, the audience,or whatever. I just love to play, and it is inspiring to be in the pocket, to swing.
