Just finished my first Waltz-composition for piano.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLPvlqh4hg0
Make sure to watch in HD for better sound quality.

I used some (maybe) strange interchanges in scale and really can't assess anymore if it is just too much for such a short time and if it distracts the listener from the evolvement of the piece. You know that feeling when you just spend a lot of time on a piece of music and lose all objective judgment?
Please tell me what you think. smile

I actually very much enjoyed its simplistic melody. Well done.

Very haunting. I especially like the strong intervals in the left hand that continue to build tension. Perhaps if you decide to develop the piece even further, you might embellish this haunting melody with some right hand flourishes.
It's really a nice composition and has an underlying character that works well with the photography provided.
Very nice first waltz.
I chose the settings of "Sylph" and "Sylvan" in my "Namaste" CD. www.frederickwarner.com

I liked it, too, for the modal melody and harmonic contrasts, and I also agree about the pictures. I do think it could use a bit more dynamic contrast in the left hand between the downbeat and the 2&3, and in the melodic phrasing.

Thanks a lot for your feedback.

I guess you are totally right, elecmuse3. Now that you mentioned it I realised there is no contrast in dynamic at all. I know about basic phrasing for 3/4 beat rhythms (DA da da) but have no idea how to phrase the right hand. Any suggestions? It often has six 8th steps in one bar but uses some uneven steps, too. Help appreciated : )

The composer in me (laughs) says that sounds nice.

The pianist in me says did you play this or was it programmed into something? Your Music says "p" but the beginning is definitely "f"?

Excellent job.

Found myself humming it after a second listen :-)

Slightly puzzled why the score is in B flat minor, but the piano is playing in A minor?

Quite interesting use of modes smile And I totally know what you mean about totally losing judgment after working for ages on a song! One thing that I think helps is recording it and listening back, it always sounds different to when you're playing it.
