I have been hunting down these 2 models around South Asia, and the prices differ according to locations.

Now I have just been offered the following:

Yamaha P155 = USD1,360

Kawai ES6 = USD1,480

The Kawai ES6 comes with stand and pedal.

Which is a better buy ? The original price for Yamaha 155 =USD1,800.

Hmmm well the Kawai used to be MSRP (at least in the US) $2099 so that brings it price more discounted thus technically a better buy. But in the end they are going to be the same price even with having to purchase the stand for the P155. Personally if I was going strictly on better buy and had no experience with either I would lean towards the Kawai because it is being more heavily discounted. But I doubt you can go wrong with either. Its hard to say because I am not familiar with the pricing on pianos outside the US and what a good price would be for the P155 in South Asia. Here in the States that would seem high to me for a P155 without a stand and the ES6 actually seems to be on par to what I would expect to pay for one with a stand.

Both have great piano sounds but the Kawai ES6 buil-in speakers are much better than the ones in the 155. If you are planning to use built-in speakers, I would suggest that you choose the Kawai.

Hi,
could be interesting for you give a look to these two post I opened some weeks ago:
https://www.pianoworld.com/forum/ubb...0in%20keyboard%20feelin.html#Post1359245

https://www.pianoworld.com/forum/ubb...or%20classic%20music%20.html#Post1362068

I had your doubt too, and at the end I decided for a P155 mainly because the keyboard is more "hard" than the one of the E6. But, please consider this idea about the keyboard as a personal feeling and experience. For my personal style I prefer the p155 keyboard.
I have to say the the sound of the ES6 is better than the P155.
In any case they are both good pianos.

These are my views on the ES6, I posted this previously.

I own an ES6.

1. The stereo perspective doesn't have any shifts in it as you play up and down the keyboard.
2. There is no apparent velocity layering.
3. Sustained chords exhibit natural evolving sonorities that don't collapse due to looping.
4. Complex chords are in tune.
5. There are different settings for bright and dark pianos that make it sound like a differently voiced piano, as opposed to just the obvious eq settings to achieve mellow voicings like Yamaha's.
6. The ES6 also has a setting for using full range speakers vs the internal set. That setting appears to disable compression and provides a nice relaxed tone through full range speakers.

Amongst its settings the ES6 includes a setting for whether you are using internal, headphones or external(full range)speakers. I noticed that when I was using my full range external speakers and toggled the ES6's setting, while listening to my external speaker, from the ES6's internal speaker setting to it's external setting, the sound became more relaxed and natural. I use the term relaxed because I've heard compression constrict an audio program before and I know what that sounds like. When compression is turned off, I recognize it as a relaxing of the dynamic character of a sound.

Are you external speakers 'powered' speakers so that you don't need additional amplifier ?

Yes mine are. The Kawai setting I'm speaking of is for 'any' full range external speaker system.

Hi,
I'm enjoying the discussion comparing the Yamaha P155 and the Kawai ES6. Adam, I live on Long Island, where did you purchase the Yamaha? I'm stil considering the Kawai ES6.

With or without stand ?

Every store in the US, both on-line and in person sells the P155 for $1199. That is just the P155 without stand. But many times you can get a discount. Almost always you can work out a 10% off deal and some times 15%. I paid $960 but that is not an easy to find price.

Here in the US Sales Tax is is a local tax and ranges from zero to 10% but can generally be avoided by having the unit shipped. This tax would be in addition to the $1199 price
