I love those movies...

Me too! And out of all the 'pasta' westerns, "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly" is the best me thinks! Great lines of dialogue too. Like the one you just referenced. Eli Wallach should have won an award for that role. smile

Yes!

My personal favorite is For A Few Dollars More, but G, B, & U is undoubtedly the best of the lot.

Another favorite dialogue:

Tuco (reading letter): "See you soon, idi-, idi--...

Blondie: "Idiots. It's for you."

Funny! Someone else said the same thing in YouTube comments. Another replied ... "yeah, he runs like a girl - but would you say that to Tuco (the fictional character) in person?"

I wouldn't. smile

Because classical music can only be felt, not understood. And people don't like things they don't understand.

I think it's mainly peer group pressure and wanting to be like your friends, even though people like to think they're individuals and unique. A few of the comments and reasons given made me think of something i heard once 'people don't know what they like, they like what they know'.

Classical music is much deeper and requires you to think. The emotional high is so much deeper than Pop, Rap etc. So it is primarily for people you also read more often than the standard.

Last week I went to a music shop on Saturday and I asked the lady at the counter something about Chopin.
She didn't know who he was!!!!!! Fair dinkum!! Then she asked which band he is in. OK, she was young, she probably works there only on the weekend because she still goes to school, but this is NO excuse, particularly if you work in a music shop!! She looked at me in a funny way (as if I were weird cool ) and I felt bad and annoyed all day.... mad

No rules about it as far as I've noticed. But here are a few of my own devising smile

[1] If you want to look like most of the others, then dress up a little.

[2] If you don't care about looking like most of the others, then wear what you like.

[3] If one or two people stare at you and it bothers you, then you apparently do care, so see rule[1]

I've been to many classical concerts. I've never worn more than a polo and some Dockers type slacks with brown or black shoes. At our local semi-pro community orchestra I've gone in my more usual shorts and teva sandals. Even at the L.A. phil, which is pretty top tier. I saw many in the same polo and slacks outfit. If someone else cares that I didn't wear a jacket? Screw 'em. At the Hollywood Bowl suits are actually in the minority.

I think it bugs people that they don't know when it's okay to clap.

It bugs me that at 52, I'm usually one of the youngest people at our local orchestra.

Don't feel too bad - my live-in girlfriend has no idea what the difference between Beethoven and Stravinsky is - the difference between a harpischord and a piano - and she could care less.
Imagine playing an exquisite Sonata only to have someone, when asked how they liked it, say "Eh, you've played it before" or "Meh - it's okay" or "it's all music to me". She won't even go to any of my concerts.

So, if anyone wants to learn patience, please come over to my place and you can perform all day long with my girlfriend as an audience and you will either leave with the patience of a saint, or as a perpetrator of homicide. grin

Kids these days... if there's no bling, it ain't their thing. This is probably the main reason why most people don't bother to educate others about classical music. Is there a point? Not really... except to educate someone who will probably never care for it anyways, but will only go through the motions.
